Green Hawk Aerobatic Team in SAREX 2008: C208 Caravan in Action!!!

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/analayo/SAREX%202008/X6664897-45.jpg

Bureau of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation (KASET) is a part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative of the Royal Thai Government, Thailand, focusing on the agriculture mission and rainmaking in the program called “Royal Rainmaking Project” which is under The King Bhumibol supervising. As a part time hobby, pilots from Royal Rainmaking Project set up the very unique aerobatic team called “Green Hawk”. 😉

Green Hawk is a part time aerobatic team like RSAF Black Knight. Pilot and crews spends time in this aerobatic team when they have no mission. The number of aircraft in this team will vary, from 4 to 9, depends on how many aircraft deployed in the KASET’s base nearby. Green Hawk normally uses C208B Caravan as a main aircraft to perform. And they will appear in the event that organize at the airport which KASET has a detachment unit.

Crews that normally drop chemical powder in the rainmaking mission will also drop those chemical powder to create smoke. There are no special modification on the aircraft. Smoke is create from the rainmaking chemical that mixed with color power to produce white, red, and yellow smoke. :diablo:

As I do a little research, I found no aerobatic team in this world using transport aircraft like Caravan as a main aircraft. So we can says that Green Hawk is the only aerobatic team in the world that using this kind of aircraft in their peroformance. (Please correct me if I am wrong)

On 31 May 2008, in SAREX 2008 at Hua Hin Airport (VTPH), Green Hawk perform with 4 aircrafts. So please enjoy with the Green Hawk. 😀

I think quite a few people in other countries might dispute the first part of that statement 😉
A quick bit of googling reveals that cloud seeding was probably first achieved in the USA in 1946/7.

cheers baz

Yep. But those technology has never transfered to Thailand. Thailand is not the first country who invented this technology but I talk about the rainmaking technology that we invented by our own. Just like you say Ford invent Car and the Japanese say they invent Toyota. 😀

Maybe my broken English. Sorry to make you confuse. Thank for correction. 🙂

Just wondering what is this Rainmaking Missions never heard of it before

James

Rainmaking mission is to make the rain, my friend. 😀 When there are no rain for a long time the farmer will send the request for the rain to the Royal Rainmaking Project. And they will inspect the weather, if the weather is suitable to make the rain they wil send those Caravan in the air and they will drop some chemical like Calcium Chloride, Calcium Oxide, Dry Ice etc. to group the cloud together and make it rain. :diablo:

Those Caravan are belong to the Bureau of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation (KASET) which reports directly to the ministry of Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative and Bureau of The Royal House Hold. (Rainmaking process was invented and today supervise by the king of Thailand.)

I’m just amazed that all their displays aren’t rained off 😉

Moggy

Oh please, I do not want to get wet. 😀 😀 😀

Thank you all.

The chemical used for rainmaking are harmful to the aircraft structure so the crew needs to clean all aircraft right after they landed by spraying water.

The crew after the flight. Thank all polit, crew, and KASET officer who let us experience this unique show. 😀

And Photo #4. The sky on that they was very beautiful so the colored smoke was just great to look at.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/analayo/SAREX%202008/X6664897-64.jpg

The smoke, the rainmaking chemical, was actually released by hand by crews who normally release rainmaking chemical in the rainmaking mission. They release those chemical under 3G force.

After that they managed to land.

2 of them make a 3G turn to left and right.

Cockpit view.

They create the heart in which another 2 Caravan will fly in the middle to create the arrow. Just like the ‘Flaming Heart’ of RSAF Black Knight but Green Hawk do it horizontally because Caravan can not do the fancy loop like the jetfighter. :p

This is the chemical for rainmaking process.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/analayo/SAREX%202008/X6664897-47.jpg

Normally these chemical are white so you needs to add some color to produce red and yellow smoke.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/analayo/SAREX%202008/X6664897-48.jpg

Crews load them into the cabin just like when they making the rain.

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk152/analayo/SAREX%202008/X6664897-49.jpg
