This weekend will be the 30th Anniversary of one the greatest air shows ever, IAT at Greenham Common. Any excuse to show this bit of film again of the arrival of the SR71. I was there!!!

Love the story about the SR 71’s departure the following week when the pilot gave the “peace wimmin” the full afterburner treatment at less than 250 feet after they’d broken into the base and daub the SR 71 and the KC135Q with white paint.
Anyone else have memories of IAT 83? The Phantom line up was impressive I recall.

The Mobile Met Unit couldn’t manage to get a team together to do IAT Greenham 1983 – we were still a bit busy with aftermath of the Falklands Unpleasantness. But we’d done 77, 79, and 81!! They were steep learning curves for everybody – but good fun. They were “flying” an airshow by the seat of one’s pants. I think Tim Prince used to age 10 years at every one!!!
