Hello everyone,
This being my first thread I would just like to introduce myself to you all. My user name is worthyone, having run out of sane names…all of which were in use. You can all call me Al, short for Alan, everyone else in my life calls me Al…except my girlfriend who often refers to me as b****** :).
Now about myself, I’m sadly no expert on military aircraft though I do have a keen interest and have been nosing in on your threads for quite some time now.
I’m a half breed, half Irish (father) and half South African (mother)…so far I’m the only Irish/South African I have met so I think I’m one of a small breed, if not unique…at least in England.
Having spent three months in the army and deciding that running until I faint with a 30kg backpack on my shoulders whilst being referred to as a “lazy little s***” wasn’t for me, I have since spent my life hiding behind a desk as a call centre customer service operative.
I have a love for all things Russian and Chinese, as well as the Super Hornet (I can already hear the boo’s and hisses) : ).
So that’s me, I hope I will make some on-line friends here and have a little fun with you all in the future.

Birmingham mosaic
Well, I hope it was preserved, I thought it was wonderful! Here is another section.

Ha ha, now I recognise it…you’ll never guess what, I live less than twenty minutes walk from there. The location you’re talking about is right next to the new hotel I’m banging on about too! That location is (sadly) having changes made to it, don’t think that particular piece exists anymore…trust me it may have only been a couple of years since you came over, but u’d never recognise the city now!!!

Worthyone – as I live in Sweden and only ever visited Birmingham once, all I remember was that it is quite close to New Street station, a little uphill from there, and as I said is a sunken garden in the middle of a roundabout. Drivers would probably never see it, but several pedestrian underpasses meet there. Amazing what you can find if you walk around, as I usually do!
The photo was taken on 5 February 2004 so I am sure it is still there – that’s only one part of a huge mosaic, beautifully done.

Hey Papa Lima,
Where did you see that, don’t recognise it! Probably one of the works of art that has been demolished recently to build yet another eye sore! Don’t know if any of the members of this forum has seen Birmingham lately but if what has been built passes as art in this city I think someone needs shooting, like I said the Radisson (I’ll spell it right one day) is nice but everything else looks as if it was designed while the design team was high on something 🙂

Welcome Alan, recognise this mosaic? I found in a sunken roundabout garden right in the centre of your home town while I was visiting.
It struck me that perhaps few people have ever seen it, even thought it is right in the centre of a big city!

Living in the lovely city of Birmingham right now, been here since the age of ten so I’m currently looking for a change of scene! Don’t get me wrong Birmingham is a nice place to live, but how many times can you go to the same city centre in a seveenteen year life span and still be enthusiastic about window shopping? Oh and the new Radison Hotel, think that’s how it’s spelt, is lovely gives the city a great image…except when you book a room on the eight floor for your girlfriends birthday and look out the window at chip shops and late night street brawls…not exactly a great image for Britains second city 🙂 . So hows life on the Key Publishing forum, is it all I’m hoping for and more?
Always nice to see another local 😀 , welcome 🙂 .

Nice shot Holty, take that yourself? The closest I get to seeing military aircraft is on my dvd player, the main problem of being in the middle of a big city!
Thanks for all your welcomes guys, look forward to talking to you all 🙂

I’m not a technical person myself, give me a pic of a nice plane with a nice camo scheme and I’m content…ok I’m not that bad I do know what an external fuel tank is and what BVR stands for etc. etc. etc. 😉
By: holty - 8th April 2006 at 21:46
depends what your looking for i guess, i tend to stay in here, unless i’ve got some photos to post. mod mil. gets a bit technical sometimes, but i have a look now and then…
