dark light

Greetings Gentlemen

Just got in from Portugal where I witnessed 3 HUGE games by Greece (vs. Spain, vs. Russia, vs. France), and 1 by Holland vs. Latvia. I’m on an emotional high right now, as I (and 10 million other Greeks for that matter) never expected them to be around at this stage. Alas, as my itinerary was also influenced by this, and I am back home and not still in Portugal waiting to watch them play vs. Chechie. I realize this should be in the general discussion, but as I am a regular in here and not there, I wanted to post it likewise. Just to get an aviation aspect into this, I flew LH from LAX-OPO via FRA. Flights were good, service was great, but I am starting to dislike the feasibility of FRA. I like AMS much better. I brought my SLR but only took photos during the matches, I didn’t take any of any aircraft. I did see the Air Luxor L1011 taking off from LIS the day after the France-Greece match. I was told by a fellow Greek that there were 110 charter flights from London to Portugal the day of the England/Portugal match. That is a very high number, and was wondering the validity of it. Anyway, great to be back.

Allen, I really wanted to. However, my partner bailed out on me and went to Spain with his girlfriend after the France match. Not to mention all my travel plans (rental car, flights, etc.) were geared around my leaving on the 28th. Nobody expected Greece to be around this long, myself included. Tickets for the match wouldn’t have been a problem, everything else would have been. It’s ok, my Greek contingent and I will be in full effect watching the game come Thursday on my 57″ TV. 😎

Only teasing, glad you enjoyed it all the same and c’mon Greece let’s see you do it !

I doubt there were 110 flights for the England/Portugal match..there woudn’t be sufficient spare a/c to call up at such short notice.

Yep the response certianly would be different, we absolutely love trip reports around here.

Nice to have you back GD1, really great and refreshing to see a team like Greece doing so well. Shame they are playing the Czechs, as I like them both.

Really want either of those teams to win it as opposed to Holland or Portugal.

2002 was a long time ago, not many people were around then, try writing another report and I am sure the response will be quite different 🙂

will you be writing up some nice trip reports? As a way of compensating for the lack of photos

I don’t know, even though I notice they have a separate forum for them now. I wrote up a couple of trip reports back in 2002 when I flew UA business class from LAX to SYD and SQ business from SYD to Europe and back. I got very little, if any feedback so it more or less discouraged me from doing any further reports. I’m going to take my digital along to the YVR/SEA spotting trip my cousin and I have coming up in 2 weeks, plus my next Euro trip in July/August which will take me through a number of airports. I’ll be sure to take plenty of photos on those.

I wouldn’t doubt that there were 110 charters. Pity they were all a waste of time, he he he!!
