I believe from talking to a member when I was there in the Summer that they do restoration work on one or two days during the closure. A letter to the museum should find a contact.

Manston is now a civil airport. There is the famous Spitfire & Hurricane memorial museum open all the year round with a website at:- http://www.spitfire-museum.com/
But there is a Manston History Museum nearby which opens daily only in the March- October time. They had a website but the URL I have is now a dead link.
