What do you think of this then..?

Of course, they might want to come and live here before they really make that choice.

Andy – not meant to be a dismissive comment on the topic at all…..they are all “diversions” as you rightly say, and often enjoyable ones.
Your other comment is very telling. We lived for many years in a tiny hamlet a bit further North from you and although I spent days away travelling in the cut and thrust of commerce I might have been entering another world on my return. Weekends were a joy of peace and tranquility with the pressures of that world left far behind. Bliss!!:D
And I certanly agree with you about London now. Loved it in the sixties and seventies, but not any more.

Of the thousands of surveys published every day, every month on every topic imagineable you pick the ones that most resonate, either to make you angry or make you happy. Are they worth anything? Not much more than a tin of beans, probably.
As ever Charlie.
I plant these little nuggets purely for your (and others) diversion.
Like my old chum Snapper, I remain largely detached from the events spinning around me.
In my little corner of sunny Bedfordshire life goes on it’s own pace–somewhat more slowly than elsewhere I shouldn’t wonder.
One point I might query is this.
If one listens to the chattering reptiles of the media, one gets a certain idea of the country.
However, out here in the provinces, life bears little relation to that–and we’re only thirty miles from the metropolis.
I worked in London for many years but on a recent visit my overiding thought was it’s a young mans place.
Which is closer to the ‘real’ Britain..??

is the Mail Online a “real” media outlet?
Nah its an online comic !!:)

I don’t live in the UK, so………is the Mail Online a “real” media outlet? And who is “Monocle” magazine?
Seems like nothing more than list of stereotypical images of countries from a UK perspective.
Just my $0.20 worth.:D

I’ve been abroad; I’d far rather live here. The sky’s the same everywhere anyway.
It’s so good millions come to join us every day ;D

Good for us I say. It makes a change from the usual whining and moaning we normally see. It was quite satisfying to see all of those who were writing off the Olympics before they even started (some on this very forum) crawl back under the woodwork. What a shame there wasn’t a way to make them eat their words.
We can still do great things in this country despite the nay-sayers and negative merchants that seem to abound these days.
Let’s face it, there are a lot worse places to live than the UK. No, it isn’t perfect but it it isn’t that bad really.
one more?
