Göteborg Aero Show 2008, August 30-31

I would like to welcome all fellow aviation enthusiasts to Sweden and the city of Göteborg (Gothenburg) for the major Swedish airshow this year – the Göteborg Aero Show in late August. Staged at the historical site of the former F 9 Säve Air Force Wing this will be the first larger event for the up-and-coming aviation museum and discovery centre Aeroseum, based in the unique subterranean hangar from the Cold War.

Already confirmed highlights include the SAAB JAS 39 Gripen, SAAB J 29 “Flying barrel” (60th anniversary :)), Vampire, Hunter, Spitfire, Mustang, Harvards, Dakotas, Huey and much more… This will be one of very few venues where the Swedish Air Force will display this year. Despite economical issues we hope for the SwAF Historical Flight to participate with a pair of J 32 Lansen and the J 35 Draken also. Updates are published regularly on the Aeroseum web site.

Why not take this opportunity to spend a weekend in Göteborg and the Swedish west coast? Bring the family and visit the Liseberg amusement park and other attractions as well. With two international airports, Göteborg is well connected to the UK and mainland Europe. The hosting Göteborg City Airport is the undisputed closest choice and is served by Ryanair and other low-cost airlines (however you will arrive at the opposite side of the airport).

Göteborg Aero Show
Date: August 30-31, 2008
Location: Aeroseum, at the ex-military side of Göteborg City Airport (ESGP)
Web: http://www.aeroseum.se/english/

I already know a few forumites that will attend… 😎

Best regards,
Daniel K

Yep, that will be too late for airport action.

But! Just look up over Göteborg city at 17.30 and there will be formation flights promoting the airshow 🙂

T J, there is a regular bus line (no 35) to stop “Granhäll” see http://www.vasttrafik.se

Welcome!

But is there any chance to get “on field” on friday? Also, I won’t be in town until 17:00 and by then most a/c might have arrived already..?

Denmark has two museums:

http://www.flymuseum.dk/

Has an airshow 14. juni 2008. Good collection too.

http://www.tekniskmuseum.dk/

No airshow, but a small interesting collection.

The Danish Air Force has a show 8 June 2008.

http://forsvaret.dk/FLV-Aabenthus/

Normally a very good show.

What a shame both of these airshows are so far away from Copenhagen where a huge chunk of the population lives:confused: I am working in Copenhagen both dates from 5pm so cannot attend either:(

Due to a change in plans i have not yet departed on my previously mentioned trip, so this may fit perfectly into my return journey, i will not know til nearer the time, i may well have a look at the museum on my way up into scandinavia, i will probably be sailing into gothenburg from denmark.

Any more tips on scandinavian aviation/military attractions and sights will be kindly received, PM me if possible so as not to hi-jack this thread!

Thanks daniel

New participants:
HKP 4 Boeing-Vertol Sea Knight from FMV (Swedish Defence Material Administration)

Antonov AN-2, possibly more than one

Confirmed: Kustbevakningen (Coast Guard) with both CASA and new Dash, will be displayed together with their historic Cessna 337

More things may come…

Back to the original subject – Göteborg Aero Show. It is now confirmed that the Swedish Air Force Historic Flight intend to participate with both the SAAB J 35 Draken and the SAAB J 32 Lansen (perhaps even two!). Don’t miss this! 🙂

If you drive up from Hamburg (along the black line), there is only a short detour to Staving aircraft museum (big X on the map).

Once on Sjælland (the island next to sweden) you can get a ferry across right where the Technical museum is (where i attempted to make an X).

Both are more or less on your route, and both are worth a visit.

the only real set plans i have, are to travel from calais, stopping off in hamburg, then heading up thru denmark, and either taking the bridge or a ferry to sweden and up to my friend in karlstad. They will be stops on the way, but am most looking forward to camping in the unspoilt areas in the north of sweden

If you give me a general travel plan for Denmark, I will make a few suggestions along the route. Although Denmark is quite small and a museum detour likely to be small.

cheers for the adive, anymore greatly appreciated, sorry for hi-jacking the thread.

I really need to work out the locations of everything and work out the best routes inbetween. A couple of years ago i travelled round the centre of western europe and found out about so many places i passed close, but never saw, after i came back! Don’t wanna make the same mistake again

A visit to the Aeroseum is highly recommended even if you can’t make it to the airshow. See website for the guided tours.

Another nice museum is Svedino’s, further down on the Swedish west coast.

Swedish Air Force Museum – Flygvapenmuseum – shouldn’t be missed, and Västerås is a good place if you like the flying stuff.

Bodo Norway museum…very nice, even have a Spit on a stick out front. Can’t vouch for the one in Oslo, supposed to have a lot of nice A/C, they were closed the day we were there! I’m sure some other folk here can advise.
