Can anyone ID this aircraft?

Read what Fluffy said again – he says
“3 As said earlier it is a spares recovery program and there is nothing wrong with BBMF having a spare fuselage and wings, flying is a different matter at the moment”
So – having TE311 as spares in case a spare fuselage or wings should be required at a later stage seems sensible. It would be nice to have it fly in its own right, as it’s a very different shape to the other Spits on the flight, but I think it’s a case of “wait and see what happens when it gets a bit closer”

Not wanting to pi$$ on anyone’s chips here, but why would they? The BBMF have FIVE airworthy Spits already.

Fluffy, what i was trying to say is would the BBMF (or should i say MOD) be willing to take on another Spitfire in flying condition on a cost basis?
All the same it looks very impressive.

I think it is a shame that some have been converted to high back status – pretending to be something they are not….!
TE184, TE392…. 🙁

Fluffy
TE311 looks very nice – a credit to you
I have a soft spot for the low back aircraft having worked on a few, and it will be nice to see another one – one day….!
I think it is a shame that some have been converted to high back status – pretending to be something they are not….!
Cheers

1 There is no time scale
2 Yes and why not
3 As said earlier it is a spares recovery program and there is nothing wrong with BBMF having a spare fuselage and wings, flying is a different matter at the moment

Is there a time scale for this Spit project? Does it have the BBMF’s full backing, ie would they want it for the flight?
By: Fluffy - 16th February 2004 at 21:56
TE311 yes the fuselage is being restored to an airworthy condition,as are the wings, but at the moment it doesn’t mean its going to fly.
TB382 has been completely stripped, struck off charge and any spares recovered will support the other Spitfires on the flight. Out of the two she was in the worst condition with a lot of corrosion and dummy parts to make it look complete ie fibreglass panels, spinner etc.
P7350 should be back from paint next week with fuselage band removed fuselage roundels to correct proportions and under wing roundels to correct size, hopefully!!
I hope the chief doesn’t see this

That would be change from Type D to Type A – good news! Well done Fluffy BTW 🙂

Eddie,
Full res. is fine.
I have no obvious limit on the file size.
Very many thanks.

Airworthy with the BBMF is the current plan, I believe.
Mark V – you’ll be interested to hear that P7350 was in the paint shop, because some nitpicky people had said the roundels were wrong 😉

Ah… but full rebuild to…??
Inquiring minds and all that…
By: Eddie - 16th February 2004 at 18:49
Mark – sure thing. I’ll e-mail both of them to you at full res, if your inbox will handle it (they’re about 1mb each)
Yep, TE311 is well on the way to a full restoration – looks great in my opinion! As I understand it, it’s being done more or less as a spare time project by a few people, led by Chief Tech Paul Blackah. But there are people on the forum who know more about it than me 😉

Looks like a complete re-build of TE311.

😮
what’s happening with this Spit, and the other ex-RAF exhibition aircraft (TB382??)?
By: Mark12 - 16th February 2004 at 18:38
Eddie,
Would there please be a possibility of a ‘high res’ of the two side views for the file?
It is a year or two since I have seen this one.
