Gulf Air Question

Hi guys
Just been having a sniff at the LHR google group and notice that Gulf Air A330’s listed are now A9C- and not A40- Anyone more info on this?… Gulf Air moved to Bahrain??:confused:

Iremember the Gulf air 10’s parked at TBB LHR prior to the Golden Falcon livery around 1977ish.:eek:

Ahh Memories!! Did see one or two as a young spruceling at LHR and there was one at Prestwick impounded or something for many years.

Only saw the one at MAN (16/10/77 or thereabouts. A4O-VG), which parked on Pier A. That’s over ******* 30 years ago 😮

Gulf Air have been long since based in Bahrain.

Yet they were unable to secure BAH-MAN rights, having to operate AUH-MAN instead, via AMS and then CDG.

The Abu Dhabi government got out when Etihad was started.

Aren’t they the national airline of the UAE and not Emirates?

BTW: Just a little bug-bear of mine… The prefix for Oman is A4O (Alpha Four Oscar), not A40 (not Alpha Four Zero)

Is it V8-007 or V8-OO7

Gulf Air have been long since based in Bahrain. Originally GF was the national airline for several Gulf states (Bahrain, Oman, Abu Dhabi…). The Abu Dhabi government got out when Etihad was started, and now the Omani government is throwing its all in with a now-expanding Oman Air that has started long haul. That leaves only the Bahrain government left, so Gulf has become the national airline of Bahrain with the natural consequence that the aircraft are moving from the A4O- register to the A9C- register.

It seems they are indeed based in Bahrain,Josh. I’d always thought (assumed) they were Omani as they have always been Omani reg’d.

It is possible that they have been sold to raise revinue and leased back.Reading between the lines so to speak.

Arnt gulf air based in Bahrain? Im sure thats the reason behind it! All aircraft with the prefix of A40- will become A9C- aircraft.

Don’t think so Trident.. Still in Gulf Air c/s doing GF flights, A40-KA and A40-KB are now A9C-KA and -KB.
