A mate was clearing out his garage and came across this lot – any ideas anyone – if they can help anyone I’m sure he would consider passing them on….
Looks postwar – maybe .50 – Hughes Aircraft marked
Maybe 20mm Hispano?
Coffman
Not sure on this one – looks .303 or 7.62
Many thanks folks

If thats a five barrel Coffman, does he wish to part with it to help the Whirlwind Fighter Project, the Whirly used one as a signal gun in the fuselage.
That sounds like a novel idea, mind you no reason at all why you couldn’t use it for that purpose.

I’m pretty sure the five barrelled signal discharger was very different to a Coffman starter so probably not what the project is after.

Blimey – that was quick! Thanks chaps – the darker chute isnt ADEN though, not wide enough to accommodate a 30mm round and we have an ADEN on display in the Museum – pretty sure its 20mm -so Meatbox it probably is! Thanks everso for your help – a forum member has just PM’d as he has a use for the Coffman, will put him in touch with the owner !
Much appreciated – have a good rest of Sunday !

The second one looks the same as the chute on a 30mm Aden I have at work (see photo)
The Coffmann starter component does look like Merlin or Griffon.

Hi TT,
First chute could be from a US-built gun turret. I think the B-24 had Hughes turret(s). The second looks like it could be Meteor as the offset would allow it to fit an installation which had one gun above the other.
The Coffman starter, judging roughly by the size of the foot nearby, is too small for a Nene but too big for something like a Gipsy Major/Chippie installation. My guess is something Merlin sized, possibly Hornet/ Sea Hornet.
I would be interested in the suspected Hispano chute for my Meteor Mk.8.
