Guy Gibson's Office

Several aviation and military journals have covered the renovation of Guy Gibson’s office at Scampton which supposedly now looks exactly like it did in 1943. However the photos that have been released show a very modern looking central heating radiator under the window (i.e. it is flat and thin) with modern thermostatic valves. Did they have this type of radiator in 1943? Surely in these days they would have had the bulky concertina type radiators?

Why worry, in another 20 years Scampton will be a Housing estate and Nigger will have been relocated. (Gibsons dog)

Happy landings!!

Not according to discussions about these parts http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=123188

It’s also worth noting that the restoration of Gibson’s Office was carried out by the Prince’s Trust, as mentioned here thereby engaging with the younger generation!

Come on Colin!! As Blue Robin has said “At least someone in the RAF has bothered to try” and if you want to be so picky I am sure that that “someone” will be only too pleased to install the “Proper” radiator that you have so generously donated. (Oh and BTW, make sure it’s a Mk3B* and not the later Mk 3C in case someone notices it is the wrong month of manufacture)

or a quick trip to an architectural salvage yard……

Didn’t notice the radiator – but the phone seemed a bit 1960s…..

Perhaps a gap in the market exists for replica ‘slip-on’ cast iron radiators to cover the modern ones!!!
