Guy Martin in Russia tv tonight

He went to an airfield to fly in an L39 and in the background was the IL2 taxying. Sadly zero mention of it in the sequence, so either the film crew missed the significance or they were not permitted to show close up it as it might still be a state secret ?

A missed chance as Guy usually likes any engineering. Despite the film being about Russia the origin of the L39 ,Czech, was also left out. You can buy one on the open market…such as http://topjetaviation.com/l39-albatross

The TV Times blurb mentioned a ‘jet fighter’ !! – but it turned out to be an L-39 Albatros – note also the L-29 Delfin’s taxying in the background.

I can’t remember where the airfield was – but he was wearing a flight helmet with the name ‘Rus’ on the side.

This belongs to ‘Team Rus’ – which used to be based at Vyazma – I had a couple of flights with them in 1998 & 1999 – see here ……

Yes I saw that IL2, and was hoping they would mention more about it, a missed opportunity. I thought I’d prefer to be going in the IL2 at the time.
