I live next to RAF Henlow and passing by at 18:00 yesterday evening watched a Bristol Fighter take off and do some circuits. I know the HAC restored Nimrod made it’s test flight from RAF Henlow, suspect this may have been the HAC Bristol Fighter doing the same, any confirmation?

Spanish Brisfit
Hi all.
The Spanish machine would be this one. I have a vague recollection it is a reproduction with some original parts; certainly seems to have an engine, but the radiator louvres look fixed to me. The Museo del Aire guide has a photo, but my Spanish isn’t good enough to disentangle if it’s original or not.
FiltonF – e-mail me if you’d like copies for the website.
Cheers
FWIW the caption by the aircraft says (in English) “The replica on display was built by Barcelona-based SUMAER in 1994” There’s no suggestion of original parts in either the Spanish or English text.

The parts from Guy Black which went to Bob Trickett didn’t constitute a full frame and were left over from the rebuild of Guy’s machine.

re TFC’s Brisfit – there is an rumour that it will go to Peter Jackson, or that area of the world, but given past threads its probably wise not to speculate at the moment. It will be a great shame if it does go, but having two airworthy F2B’s in the UK is not bad.
For Norwich read Norfolk – my mistake. This project was indeed Bob Tricketts restoration, and comprised some significant original parts acquired from Guy Black. Although it included an original frame, it wasn’t a WOTG frame. Bob sold the project a year or so ago, to work on other things.
As I mentioned the serials of the six F2Bs purchased in 1919 are known (I think I had them, can’t find them at the mo), but there is no way of knowing which one is which. The serials for the HAC and TFC aircraft are from the aircraft that substantial parts have come from, not the frames themselves.
Thanks for the offer of the photos James – will be in touch.
cheers,
Andy A.

There were supposedly six Weston-on-the-Green frames. Serials for the six are documented, but there is no tie-up to the surviving frames.
E2624 at Hendon
G-AANM/D7889 – HAC (WOTG frame, substantial parts from D7889)
G-ACAA/D8084 – TFC (WOTG frame, parts from F4516)
B4 in Brussels
frame with VAHF, Texas
frame at Omaka, NZ[/url]
Thanks
Also, do you know the other 3 serials???? Also didn’t Bob Ticketts (not sure of name) say he had bits from WOG as well – Or is this the Omaka frame?

Spot on, Filton Flyer- very informative – many thanks.
I thought that there was some suggestion that TFC had sold their Brisfit to Peter Jackson – is this correct? I do hope not as the ‘Fighter Collection’ surely the Brisfit is the daddy and the second Bristol in their collection to be named ‘fighter’
Didnt the Norwich remains used to belong to Bob Trickett?

I think thats about right, my website is a little out of date at the moment, as I’ve been working on a new version and haven’t had the time to update the current site. I don’t know much about the one in Madrid – anyone know where it was built, and how much of it is original?

You could also add the static Brisfit in Hangar 4 at Duxford to make it a “4-kite” line-up

Thought some were were found in a barn at Weston on the Green, Oxon?

out of the 6 F2bs that were found at Halfpenny Green what were the destinations of the rest?

Biggles’ wouldn’t approve you know. Let’s keep it RFC:
It would be a ‘three crate‘ or a three kite‘, as ‘ship’ is a distinctly American term in that context.
Ohhh. pedannnntttt…..

Would be nice to see a 3 ship at L****** but Hasnt TFCs been sold to Peter Jackson? If so, has it left the country yet?
IIRC only 2 of the three are ex-Weston?
TT
No it has’nt, left the country that is, three ship apparently still a possibility 🙂

Some more from its previous sortie at Henlow, at http://forum.planetalk.net/viewtopic.php?t=1472

I was flying at Henlow yesterday, no camera, but just a poor quality mobile phone shot of the event. There were a number of others around with cameras so I’m sure a good photograph will appear somewhere. Stu Goldspink at the controls.

That was quick!, many thanks, she looked fantastic and makes a nice change from the Grob’s, Tiger Moths and Chippie I usually see over my house……
