Apparently the HAC Hurri developed an engine problem on the way back to Dux and had to land at White Waltham with a cockpit full of smoke.
The report I have suggests it was Clive Denney driving, and that the Spit trailed him in and called length of runway remaining so that he could make the decision about pulling the gear to avoid travelling through the hedge (Wot! No load switches?)
This could all be bollox. Doubtless the true story will emerge.

Cracking stuff, good to see he had a comfortable ride back (The 108 really can me a rocket ship when she wants to be). Hope the Hurri’s engine is ok.

That is more or less correct. Charlie Brown (Spit) and Clive Denney (Hurri)fired up at 16.30 and got airborne 5 mins later
I take it this was at White Waltham?

That is more or less correct. Charlie Brown (Spit) and Clive Denney (Hurri)fired up at 16.30 and got airborne 5 mins later. They returned for a sedate flypast and then broke left and right. At that stage the Hurri began running a little rough, and trailed a short plume of smoke.
He flew a tight circuit, with a curving final turn onto 07. They alert siren was sounded and rescue trucks moved out, but it was no real drama, and the Hurricane taxied in and shut down. The Spit did not land.

Glad all appears to be ok. If I had to divert I couldnt think of a nicer place than Waltham. Cracking clubhouse that does great tea and wads.
Hope all is not too serious especially after all the engine work done on her in the last year. No sign on the WW Webcam but that doesnt mean too much as its field of view is rather narrow.
IIRC the first airshow I ever went to was at White Waltham.

Just returned from Duxford where a number of us were watching the weekenders returning. We all thought it was strange that BM597 arrived alone…..
