It looked to me very much like a radial powered Ryan  , playing a Yak trainer I guess  .
Can anyone one else out there who has seen the MASH Ammo Dump, Charly, Frank’s big gun  episode comfirm this please.
Not for any real reason just curious.(is it to much to ask If someone know’s whose plane it was 😮 ).

I just happened to be looking up at the tv at the gym the other day and saw that sequence….funny to read about it here. It was a Ryan PT-22.

That’s the one.
Thank’s guy’s 😀 .
I knew it was some sort of Ryan, as I have seen enough Aussie type’s at different airshow’s here over the year’s at Point Cook and Avalon 🙂 .
Not a bad little plane really.
And from the little flock’s I have seen of them put together here in Oz, seem to be quiet popular Downunder 😉 .
And some of the owner’s really made the effort to make them look nice and spiffy 🙂 .
Yes the producer’s got it right, I think the Bell 47 was the really first Helicopter to be of real practical use, and was a real work horse for her day.
I will see what I can find around the net, and drop a few Ryan’s and Bell 47’s here if I can find a few 😉 .here’s just one from the link for a start.

Yes, PT-22
Yes, it’s a Ryan PT-22, an American primary trainer from WWII.
Civil versions had in-line engines as well and were popular aerobatic planes.
And although you didn’t ask, let’s give a belated “well done” to the producers who have not only the correct helicopter type in the opening credits, but the exact model as well.
They’re Bell 47D-1 (H-13D/E)….although in some episodes later Bell 47s (noticeable by the larger fuel tanks) are seen as is a Bell 47J Ranger (a deluxe model with a 4 seat cabin and covered tailboom).
There, I feel better now. 🙂

Looked like a PT-22 to me. If I was very clever I could post a link to show you what I mean. but I’m not, so I can’t!!!!.
From my limited expertise on the Korean war didn’t the North Koreans use the PO-2 for a similar thing over the front line at night?.

P.S. I’ll have a go any way
If it does’n work try Googeling “Ryan PT-22”

Low wing fixed gear braced wing’s two seater open cockpit’s and un cowled radial.
painted up for MASH as a North Korean plane throwing hand bomb’s.
Has anyone seen the 5 o’clock Charly episode.
Is it a Ryan st
