Heh, thats the locals mentality for you :p

Odd how 164 seems to be the most photographed jet in the old colours, seems to be a few of it round the camp.

Oh, its the one that poor old Simon Burgess took on that fateful day without the ailerons connected. A sad story that is still told to all trainee engineers as a word of warning 🙁

I don’t know what made me chuckle the most- the fact of what he had painted or the “increase” in aerial visitors as a result of his action.:D

A friend of mine inadvertantly made a similar major attraction for A10A pilots during the 1980’s- something he decided to encourage rather than keep them away.

Due to being the proud owner of a Sherman tank, he left it outside for a few days after the tank’s appearence at an airshow- needless to say once one
A10 pilot had seen it the rest of the squadron followed suit- result daily bust ups for a fortnight…:)

On a related note, mate of mine who lives out a few miles to the West of Edwards AFB has painted a large star & bar on the top of his water tank. Apparently everyone is *buzzing* past to take a look at it, which given the stuff we have around here makes everyday an airshow.
If I lived out where his is I would do the same, however, it appears my house is actually a landmark for turning downwind at Plant 42…

In belgium the farmers are way better 😉

This photo is taken in final to Antwerp Airport.

I have a better shot of it somewhere but can’t find it right now.
This one was taken from an SV4.

You can blatantly see the chap in the back actually looking at it, too!

I’ve also heard tales that they now deliberately use it as a way point , though how true it is I’ve no idea. Knowing the forces sense of humour I believe it.

I remember reading about this. Farmer was pissed about all the jet noise and painted his roof. Not a bright idea. Pilots from all over came looking for it and waving hi:D
