Took this photo at the St Catherine locks on the St Lawrence Seaway, in 1972. Only half a Harvard I’m afraid, but it was on the moving deck of the MV Federal Schelde, registered in Antwerp. There were several others, all deck cargo and interspersed with London buses. This may be of interest to Harvard fans, if so, I will endeavour to dig out more pics I took that day. At the time I wrote to William Green, who did dig out some info.for me Sadly, I am a confirmed hoarder with no sense of direction, therefore it could be a bit of a challenge to locate his reply and find the relevent photo’s among those that I’ve taken since the early 50’s.

The first post says they were London buses. Although they may be ex UK as they’re right hand drive half cab double deckers, they’re not actually London Transport (not RTs nor Routemasters) and appear to be Bristols. They may have been masquerading for some tourist use abroad as ex LT as they’ve been painted red! I don’t claim to be a bus expert but had a bit of an interest in road transport history!

Barry! Many thanks for the additional photo… it is a fascinting load when you think of it… Double Decker Buses and Harvards…. who would have put those two together! Any more photos?
No I didn’t work at computing devices…. I lived in Bells Corners back in the 70’s when I was still a child… will be heading back again to see family in a couple of weeks though.
Cheers,
Richard

Hi Richard,
Did you work at computing Devices? I just found another image of the Federal Schelde. Not a good scan, but it does show the dispensation of Harvards on the port side. All these a/c had markings in french, and I think were Biafran Air Force. The roundel comprised a Gorilla clutching a missile. Love to know where these Harvards ended up…. there are three at Gatineau, and several at Woodstock. Perhaps Canadian contributers can shed any light??

Would love to see some more… lovely shot. It’s a small world, I used to live just down the road from you in Bells Corners!
Cheers,
