I spent an enjoyable morning at Halfpenny Green yesterday making plans with the organisers of their forthcoming open day. Parking at the airfield costs £5 on the day with proceeds going towards the local Air Ambulance. A huge amount of inbound traffic is expected as the event runs alongside Project Propellor’s fly in. Aerial action is planned to include a Spitfire from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Plans are still forming, but static displays on the ground should include military helicopters and hopefully some exotic historic machines with a distinctly Russian flavour. Air Atlantique will also be present with the Dragon Rapide, Prentice and Devon, with pleasure flights around the Severn Valley on offer for just £55 each.
I also visited the ‘Cafe OK’ diner in the control tower, which offers lovely bacon sandwiches and a great view of the runway… and a TV to watch the football as well!
It looks set to be a fantastic family day out, we hope it will be a big success in a part of the country that does not have many flying events. The pleasure flights around the area are great fun and I can really reccomend Halfpenny Green/Wolverhampton Business Airport as a really friendly place to fly in to, landing fees on the day are also supporting local chairities.
There is also a press day for the event on Monday 19th June.

Folks its has been mentioned on several threads and there is now an update on the General Aviation thread on this forum.
Please dont start having a moan about lack of publicity etc etc, this has been put together by a few small group of aviation minded folks. We are aware that the Airport has received some bad press and yes hopefully this can redress the balance a bit. We are all learning as we go along and there are already many things we could and would have done differently. Plaese remember this is not a Cosford, it is not a full blown display, but we believe there are enough items of interest to make it a pleasant day out – who wouldnt want to take a trip above a Steam railway in an aircraft from the same period!!
We plan to have gates open to the public from 9.30, £5 per car all day including all occupants (the majority of the car park money will be going to the air ambulance.) I will update you when I know about the times for the Spitfire.
This is our first event of this type and Im sure it will be a little rough around the edges but who knows what may grow from small acorns.
😉
Thanks for that Olly, I must admit I never look at the GA forum and do realise your’re not a “Cosford” yet!!?? Just that some general info to other aviation related forums could have been of benefit. If you pm me with some more info (again lacking on the project propellor site) I could certainly distribute via various media.

Press Day
We donated the use of our blue Dragon Rapide for the event’s press day yesterday (Monday) so hopefully it, the Police helicopter and a rally car will make it into the local papers before the weekend, representing some of the exhibitions on offer on the day.
Look forward to seeing you all there!

I can see the HG circuit sitting here… It hasn’t been in any of the local rags (or if it has I haven’t seen it… )
I’ll be there, but thousands won’t… 🙁

Ditto
Properly advertised and sold, this could have been a valuable PR tool against the “no fly zone” mob who are against all development of HG/Bobbington/Wolverhampton Business Airport etc etc…
Cosford had a sell out crowd for their show so the West Mids catchment area has an obvious demand for all events air-related…

Theres been absolutely f all publicity for this event and even after searching I’ve found only this thread about it. What time gates open?????? etc Pretty poor if you want public to support it and the very deserving charities involved.

Are you allowed to call it Halfpenny Green these days??? I thought they’ve only answered to “Wolverhampton Business Airport” in recent times?

I think the Spit will go straight into the display straight after its routine at the Brize Norton families day. All I know about that particular event is that it is finishing earlier than planned due to, you’ve guessed it, the football! Because of this, we are not yet entirely certain when the Spitfire will arrive at Halfpenny Green, but as soon as I know any more I will post it here! It might be a case of wait and see during the day!

Still got my programme from ’82 for the air show there. Dont Know if its time or if it was a great day but remember P51, WAR FW190, Sally B, G-Fire, Spit, Hurricane, Pilatus. Was it that good or was it because it was the first time i had seen so many warbirds?

Thanks for the notification of the other events Will.
I received my tickets the other day for the Rapide and Devon, and will now make a point of getting there earlier than I originally planned, just to take in everything else.
p.s. Any idea what time the Spit is supposed to be there?
