It has just been decided that the annual Easter Wings & Wheels Fly-in at Halfpenny Green on 31st March/1st April will go ahead, but with a reduced entry fee for visitors of just £2 because of the cold. Exhibitors and aerojumble stalls will be free as usual. Ironically there is not a flake of snow to be seen at Halfpenny Green, which has a sort of micro-climate, often different to the surrounding countryside, and as the flying weather is predicted to be good, the Fly-in ought to attract a lot of visitors (providing they can take off from their home airfields!)
The Overstrand cockpit might well be making its last public appearance before disappearing into storage, and there will be Boulton Paul items on sale in the aerojumble

See you there, Alan, I’m just off out on a Tardis hunt. There’s a phrase I never thought I would type.

See you bright and (reasonably) early on Sunday morning Wulfie.
I’m in the van so will stay over for both days if that’s ok.
Good luck with the weekend’s event!

I hope to be there, Wulfie, with Anson Aggie Paggie. She’s just had a new coat of paint today ready for the weekend.
The weather looks OK (according to current forecast) for the Saturday and Sunday with rain and gales coming later. Not good for the Monday.
I’ll be bringing our mate Mick along too.
See you there.

Shame I’m going to be elsewhere in the sun!
The Daleks last time were bloody hilarious – somewhat surreal having a ‘discussion’ with a Dalek about something on your jumble table :highly_amused:
Good luck with it, and if the blasted Volcano in Iceland decides to blow, you may see me there.

We are having our usual Wings & Wheels Fly-in on Easter Sunday and Monday. There will not be an aerojumble as such, but there will be an expanded market, and aerojumblers are always welcome. Westbeach are kindly letting us use their hangar again for small exhibits, and there will be much more on display than ever before. We may have to put the classic cars and other vintage vehicles into a section of the car park. We always get a good number of arrivals in the Fly-in, weather permitting, and there should be some interesting ones in the static display. The large scale flying models will include the HP.42 Heracles again, and as a complete contrast, a very large Vulcan.

Hello,
Is there likely to be a repeat in 2014?
Regards

yes i too popped over on monday afternoon, definately the best value show ive been to for a while, infact since the days i used to sneak into the weston park airshow for nothing as a kid through a small gate off the A5! The sound of that Hercules radial was fantastic! I didnt catch his name but the chap who was running it was very helpful and co-operative too! a chap fom uttoxeter? Apparently hes got a Griffon too and will be running this at future events.Well done for braving the elememts and carryiong on, i beleieve other tarnsport events around the country had been cancelled due to the cold spell.I look forward to next year.

Engines
Anyone get any decent pictures of the engines running?
I’ve seen Hooligan’s Leonides running but I’ve yet to experience the sight and sound of the Hercules.

Looks like a great event…..love the Overstrand Any great aerojumble bargains?

Spent a couple of cold hours at Halfpenny Green today (and as I type this the sun has now come out!!)
Some interesting aircraft and vehicles on show, and thankyou to the organisers for putting on the best value event on a Bank Holiday – would have happily paid £5 per person, so £2 made for incredibly good value!
Here a few shots from today:
DHC-1 Chipmunk
Taylor Titch

Super Emeraude
Beagle Pup

Just got back from Halfpenny Green, and I am still thawing out. Thank you to everyone who came, and I hope no-one got frostbite. Also sorry the aerojumble was not up to scratch. We won’t be trying to make it two days in subsequent years. There were fewer visiting aircraft today in gustier conditions, but the Leonides and Hercules runs were marvellous, though running 1200 hp and 700 hp fans did not help with the cold !

The SF.260 won’t be, the Bulldogs did not arrive today, but might tomorrow, the others will be in the static. We had over 100 arrivals today, including a very nice Auster AOP.6 in the static a Cub in pre=War USAAC markings, and lots of others. As you may read elsewhere, Enginefest will just be tomorrow, if the Gods are willing, with a Leonides and a Hercules.

Are they there on Monday as well?
By: Wulfie - 31st March 2013 at 07:00
I got details of what will be in the static park yesterday, while I was setting up. There will be two Bulldogs, trying not to look like ugly ducklings next to a Savoia-Marchetti SF.260, two Cassuts, a Mini-Max, Maule, Comanche and others. If yesterday is anything to go by the Fly-in will be busy.

Well done Wulfie:)
