Hi all,
Just read in the lastest issue that CARG has transferred the cockpit remains from Halifax R9371 to the RAF Museum.
Any idea what will happen to it, as Halifax W1048 is already on display. Incidentally this Halifax, then of 10 Sqn, was to take part in a raid to attack Tirpitz as well and got as far as Lossiemouth before the attack was called off.
Any pics?
Cheers
Cees

I saw these remains a few weeks ago…consisted of the cockpit floor and side (pilots side). Included the seat and control column. There were various other parts in a big box next to it. I was going back to get a picture after I had seen what I was looking for but totally fogot!!! Sorry Cees.

What we did…
Out at where our project is at MAAM at Oakey we had the same trouble with mountains of stuff in storage that would probably go in the skip. What we did was a stocktake of everything, note down stuff that we could keep and use then put the rest of the stuff onto a CD then pass it onto other museums around the country to see if they needed anything off it.Some was sold off or donated and what we have now is a controlled stock of parts and a lot fuller array of museums in the country.

Ok, any pics of the cockpit remains?
Indeed, just what does this “nose section” consist of ? Anybody know ?
Always thought the IWM example was the last, but i tried to gain access to this example back in 1997 when i noticed it listed in Wrecks & Relics, only to be told that it was “very modular” and “stored in different parts of Innsworth until such time that resources can re-assemble it”.

In the case of items like the Mk III nose cone, maybe they could give them to say the YAM for a donation, and use the money to pay for a new member of staff to keep the Grahame-White hangar and Battle of Britain hall open all day!

Then I must continue raising its profile then. I have said it before and will say it again. What’s the use stockpiling aircraft components without any plans to do something sensible to them while other organisations or projects desperately need them (original Mk III perspex nose cone anyone… which YAM could very much use)
But that’s my humble opinion of course.:o

maybe by raising its profile like you have they will, but I somehow doubt it, I just dont see it fitting in with their collection,

Probably get put in the corner of a storeroom for many years then chucked into a skip !
Cant think they will have much use for it after all they have a whole one !
Let’s hope they will do something to it, for instance putting it on display next to W1048.
Cheers
