Halifax Dedication

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Yorkshire Air Museum’s Halifax Dedication evening, yesterday. This magnificent aircraft was resplendent in her new colours, one side retaining the ‘Friday 13th’ markings, with the other commemorating the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Free French Squadrons – flying Halifax Bombers from Elvington.

The evening was a great success – congratulations to all at Elvington. I thought you might like to see a couple of photo’s.

Props.
Are they not adjustable then I seem to remember that they were molded as one piece?

Peter, YAM are only a small concern and have done alot for the memory of fallen aircrew, this is the nearest anyone is going to get to seeing what a Halifax bomber looks like. With a small budget this is a remarkable aircraft, it is not intended to fly or taxy.
York being the the major grave yard of most of the serviving Halifaxs including Friday the Thirteenth it’s with pride that Elvington (YAM) has managed to build this fine aircraft.

Secondly the props are wrong pitch and would actually run in reverse if these engines were runnable. Can this be easily fixed?

Peter, changing the props is the easy thing, finding them is the hardest part as the team at Trenton know. I understand that YAM and Trenton have an agreement regarding the exchange of parts, information etc. Why not letting them have one of the wooden dummy propblades from which YAM can mould some new blades. Just a thought.

Cheers

sorry chaps red flags are a wavin!

😮

So this is the completed Halifax then eh? She does look pretty good but two things stand out like a sore thumb.
Firstly that nose blister looks very poor with all the wrinkles in it as seen in the photo. I know they had one heck of a time trying to form this section but practice makes perfect right?!
Secondly the props are wrong pitch and would actually run in reverse if these engines were runnable. Can this be easily fixed?

All in all I give them a B+ for their efforts 😉

Yes, the finish on a model is all important; how many tins of Humbrol 85 satin black was that, then? :p

Looks much better, now.

YAM Halifax

She looks magnificent in these phots. Has she been completely repainted, or just remarked? I went to YAM two years ago and was really impressed with the aircraft, and what the project has acheived, but the paintwork was rather tatty and it was clear that parts had been painted as the aircraft ‘grew’.

Looks great! Thanks for posting. I’m pleased they’ve retained the ‘Friday 13th’ nose art on one side.

Paul

Wow, those are some very atmospheric photo’s. Thanks for sharing them.
The silk black looks very menacing.

If I get to get my Halifax cockpit replica painted I think wI know now hat finish I would choose.
