Hi
This chair is supposed to be a Halifax Nav’s chair, I am planning on making a bomber radio operator display with a mannequin and I wondered if this chair would also be correct for that and to check that it is from a WW2 RAF bomber ?
Any help would be much appreciated because I know next to nothing about aircraft fittings.

Hi CeBro
Would you no whether the Hastings chairs headrest was a part of the seats frame or would it of been clamped to the frame in some way? as ive also managed to get hold of one of these a few years back.

I certainly will. I already have the mannequin (being a flying clothing collector), the 1154 and the J type switch, i just need to 1155 which is the easier bit to get and i am gradually accumulating the various plugs needed.

Keep us informed how your display develops, perhaps the forum can help you with advise/parts etc. It certainly did for my Halifax cockpit.

Yes it did and that is how you can identify a Hasting radio operators seat if the headrest fittings are present (I have a Hastings manual somewhere). But you can use it for your display as the seats are identical, it has the upholstery relatively intact usually only the bare frame is left. I have such a bare frame (and one for the navigator) but can’t fit into my cockpit as the floor is at the position of the radio operators table. The Halifax fuselage is quite deep.
Very nice find.
Cheers

Didnt the Hastings chair have a headrest?

We have one of these in our Museum and were told it is ex-Hastings rather than Halifax – Cees will know more!

More like the radio operator’s chair. The navigator on the Halifax had a fold-down seat if I recall correctly.
