Halifax throttle box

Hi all,

For my Halifax cockpit project I am desperately in need of a throttle box. In the past two decades two were advertised for sale in FlyPast, but I could’t find out where they had gone to. The team at YAM were given one which had been gathering dust for years in a garage. The UK would be the most likely source.

Does anyone on this forum have any leads where to find one?

Thanks,

Cees

Hello Cees.
Your talking about an ad that was in F/P over 20 years ago right? I remember reading it before I really got into aircraft as bad as I am now! Wish I had known then what I know now, I would have bought a load of the stuff even if it meant paying off a bank loan haha

Peter,

Yes there were two adverts, one claiming that a throttle box had been obtained from a museum and not dug up. It was priced at 65 gbp 😮
I had just started to get involved with historic aviation not knowing that I would need such a thing someday. There was another advert in the early nineties, I tried to track down the addresses and telephone numbers but without success.

Cheers

Yes I know, I have been looking hard for a throttle box, but they must be even rarer as hen’s teeth. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any lurking somewhere. I recentely located an original Halifax instrument panel, flight engineers panel and a lot of bits and I hope to acquire these. I have heard some rumours these past years about throttle boxes but nothing “true”. As you well know yourself perseverance will pay off in the end (hopefully).

I am interested in that Halifax AMI, could you e-mail me off board so we can discuss this further? I might have something interesting for you.

Cheers

Hi HP57,

I’ll kick this one off as the board is pretty quiet today.

I’ve not heard of a Halifax throttle box being available for sale or trade in all the years of my cockpit collecting. I cannot recall the ads in Flypast, either, although I must admit it’s been some years since I last read the mag.

The Cotswold Aircraft Restoration Group had a Halifax restoration project that originated in a Scottish scrapyard. This was something like the port half of a cockpit wall, with attached floor, control column and, I think, a quadrant.
I last saw it about fifteen years ago and I’ve no idea about its current state or whereabouts.

We have some very corroded throttle remnants in our collection – but you know this anyway, as I sent you some photos a while back.

I really cannot offer much more in the way of leads, but maybe this post might spark a memory or two and result in some new info? I know you’ve made this appeal in many forums on the net, so let’s hope your perseverance pays off!

Regards!

p.s. We recently picked up an Air Mileage Unit, dated 1943, from a Halifax in the NP range (still got it’s stores tag attached). Interested in a swap or something?
