Hamilcar Glider Scale Plans and other stuff on British Glider/Tug equipment

I’m after a decent set of scale plans of the GA Hamilcar (The one I really would like is a copy of the one Airfix Magazine did in 1/72 scale back in the 1970’s). I’m also after the following

photos of the Towing attachments off the Halifax A Mk V, Stirling IV, Albemarle and Dakota III.

some large port side photos/drawings showing the rivet detail/fastener detail on both the Stirling IV and Albemarle.

Undercarrage leg details for both the Horsa and Hamilcar Gliders.

I need them for references for some big profiles I’m doing at the minute, Please contact me by PM if you can help.

Regards Richard

On doing a quick Google search, I found a small copy of the WWII Flight cutway of the Horsa Mk 1 reissued in 2006. Anybody got a copy of it that I could have a full sized scan off please. From the looks of it, it got every detail that I still require.

I have P.M’d you vern.
just out of interest, there is part of a Hamilcar at the tank museum Bovington,I have some pics if you want.
I do not know what Airborne Forces museum have because they moved away from my area, they may have something.
Of course there is the part Hamilcar at Wallop as well.

cheers baz

Thanks Baz

I’ve already taken a lot of photo’s at Middle Wallop of the Hamilcar, and of the Horsa’s at Wallop and Salisbury Hall, the problem with the horsa’s is that they are all Mk 2’s and I’m doing a Mk 1. All of my profiles are A0 sized, hence will be quite detailed. Also the research budget for this little project is tight, hence I don’t want to have to go to Shawbury. The Airborne Museum is currently moving to Duxford and there is no info onwhen they are reopening.

As for the Bovington photos, any photos will help.

I’ve PM’ed you with E-mail Address.

The plans in the Airfix magazine (january 70) of the Hamilcar are not to good. The undercarrage is that of the prototype. There where plans in Aircraft of the fighting powers vol V. Which are mentioned in the Airfix mag. If you see the film ‘ All the Kings Horsa’s’ There are good shots of Hali’s, Albermarles and Stirlings. There are some photos of Horsa and Hamilcars which you can see the undercarrage in The history of the Glider Piolt Regiment. The Airfix mag is for sale on ebay, Type in Fairey Battle look down on the list and its the one with the Bren gun carrier on the front.

Best wishes

Dave
