Normally on a night shoot it’s a tripod and long exposures but that Thursday evening I threw caution to the wind and used the ‘Hand Held Twilight’ mode on my Sony A580. Basically the camera rattles off 6 shots at different ISOs and using Image Averaging (which can also be done in any good imaging software) reduces the noise level and micro shuffles the separate images so they line up to give you a high ISO/low noise image. Allegedly.
Many thanks to Phil, Lee and everyone else at Northolt for an excellent evening and to everyone I met and the strange looks I was getting as the camera machine gunned the images. In the order they were shot and exif info retained.

Excellent Brian. Looks like you’re putting the tripod manufacturers out of business as this is one piece of kit we don’t need to lug around any more? Seems your Sony A580 has proved itself in the Science Museum and now here.
