Badly modeled at that, a Victorian signal box was probably better laid out

I think there was some discussion about this a while back and it seems that during the eighties they did manage to get both port engines running but the RAF had de-fuelled the aircraft on arrival, so there was only a minimal amount of fuel onboard. The Varsity was drained to provide some fuel but once that was gone so where the engines runs..too bad. I think it was Joe P. who provided the info..

Joe , I visited Newark in 1988 and they had all of the intakes and exhausts covered on the Starboard inner , when I asked I was told that they occasionally ran it up to provide power to some of the aircraft systems , do they still run it up ??

What ever became of the fuselage and cockpit section of TG536. I have see pictures taken in 1986 Yorkshire with what looks like the fuselage of a VC10? firetraining perhaps?

I very much doubt whether any Hercules engines on any Hastings has been run for a number of years, I could well be wrong though.

I dont think they run the engines up, when I last went there they were stuffed full of wire, to keep birds out.

Well if she did deteriorate in any way, instead of restoring her properly, they could always chop her in half and turn her into a walk throught exhibit……..

Duxford Hastings

Nice web site John.

Below is a picture of the Duxford Hastings taken 15th July 2003. The paint is a bit faded but otherwise I don’t think it looks too bad.

I understand that TG528 is due for a makeover, when I am not sure, as someone has said perhaps when the new super hangar is constructed.

I hired 528 two years ago and can report that internally she is in satisfactory condition, full of seats and all appears intact in the cockpit area.

There are exernal and internal photos on my web site re this ‘Queen of the Skies’ and others. I actually flew from Lyneham to Hawarden to Aston Down to Lyneham in 528 on 10th August 1953.
