Much like the Hunter later, the Meteor was quite an export success …

Argie Meteor

It appears to be Meteor F.Mk.4, I-095, at the Edificio Condor, Buenos Aires (from the Meteor Flight “survivors” web site).

Argentina bought 100 (fifty new-build and 50 ex-RAF machines) in the late forties and, apparently, they liked them so much they only retired the type in 1970 for the Mirage. Most of them still survive.

Wot you doing down there anyway, Mark12? Not many Spitfires down there – unless you know differently?

The last aviation related photo I took was of this Argentine Meteor a couple of days ago coming out of the port at Buenos Aires on a coach. Unfortunately I had set the pocket camera on mid zoom to capture a Skyhawk on a plinth in the middle distance I had spotted entering the port a couple of weeks previously.

In consequence I have cropped the nose but somebody who loves the Meteor will be able to tell us more about this machine.

Meteor

Yes, ’tis an old bird, the Meteor.

As I mentioned in another thread recently, my Meteor, WH291, is over sixty years old – and it’s a later F.8 as well.

Only a mere fifteen years after the Meteor flew the prototype F-4 Phantom II took to the air – another great classic warbird jet:)

What is really interesting is that the Spitfire and Meteor birthdays being posted today are only 7 years apart.

Accuracy aside of course 😀

Is the readers comment about 29 Squadron likely to be correct? It doesn’t sound very plausible to me.
