I trust all these lovely pictures have copyright holder permission for republication here, because I sure as hell don’t see any credits here…

I’m with you on this one, Damien – there’s way too much posting of stolen photos on these Key publishing forums. Amazing, considering these forums are on a publishing house’s website.

If you’re going to steal a photo, at the very least provide a credit and link to the website you stole it from.

Richard.

The F4H-1 BuNo 142259 single-seat prototype lasted until 21 October 1959, when a detached engine access door caused its 295th flight to end in a blazing crash which killed test pilot Zeke Huelsbeck. Photo source: McAir. Text from “The Phantom Story” by Anthony M Thornborough and Peter E Davies.

Wow! Looks rather sporty as a single seater, I had not seen that one before 🙂

Found this one on a Jet boy’s forum elsewhere,
Did not say where it came from, only that the prototype was flown by a Bob little on the 27th May 1958.

Long live the mighty PHANTOM 😉

Or just chat about what this beast has managed to do for the last 40 year’s!!!!. 😮

Calling Phantom phanatics

Here are two close-ups of the tail of the Phantom at East Fortune.
I have always been intrigued by the leading edge of the tailplane, where a not particularly aerodynamic-looking “slat” is attached, looking rather crude.
Can one of you experts please tell me what it is there for? Is it a “slat” or something else?
