Thanks to everybody (I think). As has been sussed I lie about my age, but this is a great birthday for me as all you nice working chaps will be giving me avgas money each and every month from today. Also, as five years back the future was in doubt I am doubly pleased to still be around and moderating.

Thanks Moggy the other half has been told to add it to my birthday list 😀 When I was at school we had to visit WW1 battle sites and all the CWGC sites aswell, lets just say at 13 it put things into perspective thats for sure. Bex

If, like me, you are an inveterate fan of the CWGC’s work, it is a must-have.
Some of the pictures are stunning, though betraying evidence of quite a lot of Photoshop enhancement. I’m sure, if they had collected images from a wider base of photographers the quality could have been improved further – the picture of the naval memorial on the Pier Head in Liverpool is just plain dreary.
The text is fascinating. Imagine being faced with the need to generate 750,000 headstones in 1920 when it took a highly-skilled craftsman more than a day to carve ONE intricate regimental badge by hand.
Certainly a book I’ll treasure.

Managed to get considerably the worst for drink, collapse on a lounger in what sun we had, open up the pressies (including Remembered, the history of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, which is a stonker) and then drink some more.
Not much moderating done yesterday 😮
