The site of thousands of excited Canadians in Ottawa on Canada Day a couple of years ago is one of my most bizarre memories.

Formerly Dominion Day, July 1 (Canada Day) is the one truely official moment when we do it up coast to coast to coast to coast, celebrating the birth and history of the Greatest Nation on the Face of The Earth. And we DO IT UP! (not quite as wild as Queen’s Day in Amsterdam).

The Dominion of Canada was officially given ‘independence’ in 1867 by the British North America Act, which was even more importantly, repatriated in 1982.
