Hardware advice with Apple Imac

Good Evening Chaps n Chapesses,

Hope you don’t mind a few most basic questions, as I’m a newbie to this Flight Simulation lark!

I have a, Apple Imac for my image processing work and reckon a bit of FS would offer an alternative to it’s usual use. So I’ve gone and bought X-Plane 9, which I’ve yet to download and the reason for the delay is I need your advices as to what hardware to purchase.

My initial requirements are for fixed wing, complex prop ops for the likes of a float equiped Beaver but may consider having a tinker with rotary flight, so what do you suggest?

I don’t want to break the bank but would like to start with a suitable Yoke, rudder peals and throttle quadrant, and consider cyclic, collective and rudder pedals later.

So what do you guys use?

Regards

Sorry Moggy, I have to disagree. X Plane was designed on the mac platform and a mac of the correct spec is a very capable machine.

As far as hardware is concerned I assume the original poster is refering to flight controls. Most USB hardware (Joysticks, Yokes, Throttle quadrants etc) will be compatible, the only equipment I have lost the use of since moving to OSX is my Track IR head tracker. I currently use a Saitek X52 stick and throttle, it has enough axis controls to allocate sliders or dials to prop RPM and Mixture for your complex props but a more realistic option may be a seperate quadrant from CH products or Saitek. I have also used CH Products yoke and pedals with X plane on both the Mac and Windows versions. You may also prefer the feel of a yoke, it’s a little more like the real Beaver.

I’ve found X-plane.org is the best place to get support and advice.

Good luck!
