Hi,
I had a bit of luck with my interest in collecting Harrier information and items and picked up my second Harrier altimeter, it came with the equipment label attached showing that this MK. 28D was from GR.3 XZ999.

I posted some questions about XZ999 on this forum and received information and some nice photos includeing this one of the aircraft ready for take-off at RAF Gütersloh in july 1983 from ‘psychnaut’ of the Gütersloh Spotters Group.

I asked the RAF museum for a copy of the movement card for XZ999 and they kindly provide me with a copy, it shows that the aircraft spent most of it’s time with 4 Sqn. at Gütersloh and a spell with 233 OCU.

In 1989 the nose wheel failed during a rollerlanding at RAF Bruggen and XZ999 was reduced to spares at 431 Maintainance Unit, Bruggen in 1990.
I really like getting an instrument for my collection that can be traced back to a particular aircraft and get that aircraft’s history, I don’t have the money, space or time to put into a Harrier cockpit section but being an instrument tech. and an aircraft nut this keeps me happy enough.
Can anyone please confirm that XZ999 was the last GR.3 to be produced?
If anyone has more info or photos concerning XZ999 can they please contact me.
cheers,
-John

The rear fuselage section of XZ999 was eventually scrapped at RAF Laarbruch shortly before it closed. I tried to acquire it for a university for displat but was unsuccessful. I have no photo’s unfortunately.

Thanks XM692,
I overlooked those four GR.3s in the ZD series!
Robert, too bad you missed out!
