Does anyone know the purpose of this test?

yup, might be an emergency support for a/c with faulty landing gear system..
I’ve seen these cushions being used by firemen and police to open wrecked car roofs and doors, impressive indeed..

u/c up…crane to take the weight and lower a/c onto the airbags and as a safety measure in case they fail.

Makes sense, but the nose gear is blocked by the front bags and they have a crane at hand, any other ideas?

Harrier GR.3 test
Looks like a test (or demonstration) of crash recovery airbags.
Take one belly-landed aircraft, insert three bl**dy great (but deflated) balloons, blow them up. Hey presto you’ve got access to the undercarraige.
