Hi,
these RAF patches and photos were given to me by an ex-RAF Harrier GR.1/GR.3 engineer today.

No. 1 (F) Sqdn. 65th anniversary photo 1983

Ground running a GR.3, Belize, 1982
I thought they might bring back memories for some and may make for some interesting discussion.
I’d like to know the origins and date of the No. 1 Squadron patch………
cheers,
-John

What IS the date for the photo?
Was the No. 1 (F) Sqdn. photo taken in……….
A/ 1982: 60 years since No.1 formed as an RFC Squadron in 1912
B/ 1983: 65 years since No.1 formed as an RAF Squadron in 1918
(John & Pepermint have me wondering now)
cheers,
-John

1918, April, RAF anniverary. Yes No 1 was formed as a Balloon Sqn in 1912 and 3 were the first with aeroplanes ( I think).

I have the same patch which I took off my jacket when I handed it back to stores on de-mob. I left the Sqn the year before that photo (82). The winged badge was worn by ground crew on our overalls or green aircrew type jackets and had been in use on No.1 back into the dark ages (so I was told)

If i PM you my email address, any chance you could email me the 1 Sqn Anniversary one in full size, there’s a good chance my dad might be in it!
65 year anniversary in 1983? Seems like the date or the anniversary might be out by my calculations.
Some interesting patches though!
