Hello Guys, I’ve been away a while and its nice to be back!
Couple of points, with regard to the Harriers, the reason they were retired in the first place was that the airframes had taken a real battering in Afghanistan and most were over their alotted flying hours. It would have taken millions of £ to put the airframes back to zero hours and so the decision was reluctantly taken to retire them. it was Harriers or tornados. one had to go. Thats from an RAF source (not me!).
secondly, not sure whether you heard tonight but we are to lose another 3 Tornado Squadrons (BBC news). any guesses on which ones?
so, with that said. we will be down to around 84 (yes i did say 84) fast jets!
where’s the sense?
also as a side note. we are only buying 25 F35Cs. enough for 1 squadron plus pool aircraft.
thoughts please
Mike
