Harvard Cockpit

Phot of the lovely Harvard in the Maritime Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum (Halifax Nova Scotia), note lovely UK style spade grip sans brake lever as the brakes are controlled by one’s tootsies! This museum is lovely and should be a must visit if you are ever lucky enough to be visiting this incredibly friendly corner of the world! 🙂

That’s right. If you restore it to a real Hatvard configuration, with the right pedals and a good old Harvie stick, you will have a more genuine feeling while you fly. And of course it is much nicer to look at. 😎

that ain’t a genuine Harvard IV layout: the pedals come from a T-6 (Harvard pedals dont have the NA logo, sadly..) and the stick comes from only god knows where.. The Harvard IV has a spade grip in the front cockpit and a “bike” grip on the back (this because the stick could be removed and placed in a safe position in the cockpit to avoid problems when soloing). I’d love to get for our Harvie a stick like the one on the top, with the brass button instead of the bakelite one we have, but that’s something we can take care of later on 🙂

Hmmm, not as nice is it – am sure modern instrumentation makes it better to fly but just not the same – I think the collector agrees – stock aeroplanes seem to be making far more money these days….

Thanks for the photo Stiggie
