Has any one been on this at Duxford?

Saw this on the Duxford Imperial War Museum page, has anyone been on this and can give us a review. I use to love that simulator at IWM in London as you flew the raid on Amiens Prison in a Mossie, what became of it ?

The Ultimate Simulator Experience
For a small additional charge, a brand new motion simulator will give visitors the chance to take part in an exciting dogfight over the White Cliffs of Dover, filmed in real time by Duxford-based Spitfires and a Messerschmitt Bf109. The motion simulator moves from the perspective of the Bf109 as it makes a lightning raid on Britain during the 1940 Battle of Britain. Visitors can have a truly realistic flight experience without ever leaving the ground!

I agree, I just downloaded it for a look and it is excellent. Who flew the second Spitfire?

IIRC it was Hoof Proudfoot

Another sadly missed great. Shame we lose so many of the good ones.

Sorry for dragging this thread up from a while back, but the dogfight was available on a video – a Spitfire documentary – a few years ago.

IIRC, it was Spitfire – Power, Grace and Glory.

I gave this a go yesterday, really good fun. The pilot was a little…twitchy on his controls even in straight and level flight, but hey, it was probably the prop wash from the lead ship 😀

One tip; don’t have your chips..before you have your chips. Or there may be an upholstery cleaning bill.

Was there something about this on one of our local radio stations yesterday.I happened to walk past a radio playing and they had a female interviewing people at Duxford,i suspect it was something to do with this but i missed the majority of the interview.Maybe someone else heard it,q103 i think was the station.

Stephen Grey flew ML417.

Painted out the invasion stripes with water wash paint.

Soon as he came back to Duxford they were washed off and she flew off to wrougton, with Hoof at the controls.

Not so sure about the dogfight scene: would the remaining Spit really have gone between two 109s to shoot at the leader? Obviously done more for dramatic effect the absolute realism. DS

No – he would take out the wingman.

It must have been fun to mke, I wonder how many takes were required to get it so perfect in the one shot sequence. I love it when the baddies are heading home and the Spit slips in for the kill.

That film was outstanding, they need to put that on DVD and offer it at the IMW bookshops for all to enjoy, great flying over some very historic land !!!!

Not my department, quite literally! Although they did borrow my Corgi desk model to see if they could photograph it for the exterior (they couldn’t). I’ll try and find out prices etc, but it wouldn’t hurt to drop an email to duxford@iwm.org.uk marked for the attention of the events department. I think it’s just the Dover dogfight at the mo, no idea if its a new recording or not.

not new Mark in 109 not shure who flew the spit Daddie I think

This is a new one, it’s been parked out near the flight line between 2 and 3 for the last couple of weeks. I have yet to sample it, but will be trying my damnednest next week! It’s mobile, so can do the PR stints off-site as well as supporting the airshows and events. One of my colleagues features on the side in RAF gear; rather him than me!

😡 No it’s not here anymore,i loved it.They seem to have one of those simulators hooked up outside [the ones that are on lorries and look like capsules] but i daresay they charge quite a bit for it.
I’m not sure if it is now permanent as i have seen it here in the winter ,although not many people use it [or seem to].
I have looked on the Duxford webpage and could’nt see anything on there.

Unless it’s re-appeared over the Winter, the Showscan “ride” was shut down due, allegedly, to unserviceability problems and a large increase in the hire charge for the films (there was a “space” ride as well). A smaller simulator was on site for a while but that was in the Superhangar so I guess that’s not around any more. The Me 109 /Spitfire dogfight was excellent though and with the “moving” seats gave quite an exciting trip.

You can see the film here, well worth a look…..

http://www.showscan.com/films_2.htm

…but I thought the simulator ride shut down years ago, has it been moved to a different part of the site
