Since they have so bravely sponsored Indiana Cundall on his search for the Holy Powdered Bauxite I actually created an account on WoT, but have never yet been actually motivated enough to play it.
Anyone done so?

I haven’t forgotten this kind offer.
At the moment I’m a bit short on downtime. But I shall get back to you.

Don’t get bogged down in the `not sure what to do` camp.
Just log on, play and work it out.
Sure you’ll die a lot in the first 20 or so games but it makes that first kill all the more sweet!
Getting killed only gets tedious above level 8 IMHO.

I’m happy to help as well Moggy, just let me know. I have access to a Teamspeak server so if jbritchford and yourself (well anyone else as well) want to join me there we can do some training battles and platoon battles. Drop me a PM and I’ll give you the details.
My EU account is at a very low level so I want to work it up.
My favourite is the E-75 tier 9, but I had a cracking battle last night in a PzIV. When you play Tier 1 and 2 everyone is a new player so for us ‘experten’ it can be a turkey shoot, which is why it would be good to team up with us.
It is worth paying for some gold because at least you can go premium which doubles your XP and Credits.

Also, moggy, I think that you can access a training mode, but only with other players. If you feel like something like that I’d be happy to tell you what I’ve learned through playing, just PM me.

I love it – played again last night as one of my mates was online as well.
My US account has everything up to Tier 10 and it’s great fun. It’s best when you use Teamspeak or Mumble and play as a platoon.
I’ve also got an EU account and a South East Asia account.

Best tanks in game are medium and heavy Russian or German.
I’ll post my best tanks later but favourite for gameplay and credits was Tiger.
For tactics. Look at the map. Fire and manouver. Don’t sit still. Don’t pick on something much bigger than you. Help your team. Do something unexpected. Well, just play rearly.
People that die the most are those with poor spacial awareness and sit still for long periods. Learn the two bush rule!

I play it semi-regularly, it’s a fun game and certainly worth trying out as it’s free.
One thing I don’t like is that the tanks don’t really meet their historical capabilities versus one another, but then again that’s to make the game more fun I suppose.
I’m also one of the alpha testers for World of Warplanes 😀 This is also fun, I’d recommend giving it a go.

Indiana Cundall on his search for the Holy Powdered Bauxite
Very funny! 😉

I think it’s the lack of any training / offline mode that has held me back
Heading off to war without a clue how the damn thing operates just seems likely to be embarrassing. I know the experten there need cannon fodder, it just hate that role.

I played about 2000 games before I ran into the high tiers when it becomes a `pay` game.
It’s a funny game. Starts out with you not knowing what’s going on but slowly you get the hang of the maps. Learn some tactics and start to get kills. It’s fun up to about level 7. From level 8 onwards you just can’t make any money as a free player and it starts to get a bit samey.
Best tiers for me were 4-5 with the Russian Mediums. 6-7 with the Tiger and IS3 heavies.
You can have some classic games but you have to be patient. To grind enougth points for the Tiger (as a free player) will take you at least 1000 games.
I stopped playing with the IS-3. I sold my Tiger to pay for it, big mistake. The Tiger generated revenue. The IS-3 just leaches it.
When you have played a game for several years however you just run out of energy. Tis a bit addictive though!
