Has the Jubilee saved the Monarchy?

The bulk of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations are now over, though I believe the nationwide tour goes on till August. In the last two days we have seen somewhere around two million people on the streets of London, far more than I think was expected. So, everyone puts their party gear away, the litters cleared from the streets and everyone goes home, but what position is the Monarchy in now?

Personally, I think the openness of the Royal Family and the attitude the Queen has shown towards the public may indeed provide the boost the Monarchy need. In her Guildhall speech she stated she was glad that she was able to provide an excuse for everyone to have a party. The balcony appearances at the palace also seemed to show more of the younger members of the Royal Family. As Princes William and Harold approach adulthood, it will be interesting to see what influence they have on the approach of the Monarchy to the next fifty years.
