Hastings, Sussex

I’m off down to Hastings today for a wedding tomorrow. However, Saturday is carte blanche…..is there any aviation heritage in Hastings, any museums to visit etc. If all else fails I can of course visit Battle Abbey but was wondering what else was down there

Well, thanks folks…in the end I visited Battle Abbey and Pevensey castle…both of which were cool. Was tempted to call in on Duxford on my way back up to Leeds but the England match beckoned!

Brenzett is excellent and well worth the visit – Robertsbridge is apparently also good, I ve been trying to visit ‘on spec’ for 10 years and never found it open – I think its more a collection of collectors and public access is not so high on the agenda – have spoken to one of their blokes about an engine though and he was charming!

There isn’t an aviation museum but there are others.
Hastings Castle on the West Hill is a must see. You can’t visit the pier because it is closed because it is unsafe. The East Hill Lift is very good aswell. I hope you enjoy Hastings.

Hmmm…think I’ll stick to the Abbey…firing into waitresses won’t impress the gf and neither will a 30ft section of B17 wing in the boot of my Mondeo

Really? B-17 wing? And I wanted to see that….

And dont mind me saying, but the waitress was so hot I still havent forgotten that face of hers…

Look out for the Meteor Service Station in Eastbourne IIRC on the Hastings Road!

Wander along where the boats are and see what debris they’ve bought up recently – biggest I ever saw was 30 feet of B17 wing spar…

Went there last summer and asked a good looking waitress about things to do. She couldnt come up with too much.

There’s always the Foyles War sightings, such as “his” house and the old fishing boats down at the beach.
