While half watching AFTER LIFE with Lesley sharp it made me wonder if any one has seen a ghost or strange events.I have had a few odd happenings the most common is, i smell the aftershave of a friend who died about eight years ago,he always laughed at my driving or the lack of skill i have. While driving from skegness to the M180, a trip i do dozens of times a year, when ever i smell his aftershave in the car i can guarantee i take a wrong turning ,much to the consternation of the other half(cries of how many times do we come this way, ect, ect).I took it as a lack of concentration on my, side until the other week it happened again ,so i made a conscious effort to keep alert and not take a wrong turning, about ten minutes further down the road the car in front over took and hit a truck leaving a t-junction.It could have been us, the only thing that stoped it was matthew wanted a wee so we stoped and i was switched on due to the scent in the car.
I asked every one in the car if they smelt any thing strange they all said no.
all i can say is thanks mark……

Anything is possible, and I have seen those demos done whereby a large ship is swallowed up by the sea after losing buoyancy from bubbles from the sea floor allowing it to sink to a level where it begins to take on water and goes under…a good theory, but would’nt we be looking for those ships at the point where they dissappeared? An in our experience the parted water was MOVING right alongside our ship at the same speed…very hard to explain! However, I am a big believer in the unusual and supernatural, I find it makes things more interesting…am still waiting for the next great photo or video of Nessie!

Mark, that’s an interesting story. I saw a very good British documentary not so long ago about a large scientific study into the disappearances of ships in the trinagle. They concluded that there is a lot of seismic activity on the sea floor which sends up huge bubbles of gas, and as they hit the surface they can disrupt the current and cause vortices that will suck even the largest ships under. They even proved the theory with controlled tests and eye witness accounts of sudden surface disturbances matched their theory too.
So, perhaps you may have been inthe edge of one of these and were very lucky. What do you think? Plausable theory for our case maybe?

When I was in the Coast Guard back in 1982 I was on a 180 foot long ship and we always joked baout going into the Bermuda Triangle (we were stationed in New London Conneceticut and we frequently sailed south towards the start of the triangle, we went to Bermuda 2wice)…one time in a light fog bank, we noticed beside our ship that the water was being parted like a ship was sailing alongside us, splitting the water and leaving a wake….it was witnessed by about 25 people by the time the incident was over, bridge crew, the Captain, the watch on the flying bridge, and those who just came up to see what was going on….we speculated that it could be a submarine periscope but could see nothing to support this, nor could it have been a whale or dolphin (they both surface then dive then surface again)….we all got up on the flying bridge (to deck of the ship) and looked through the ‘big eyes’ (huge pedestal mounted binoculars) but this did not help as all it showed was the water being split by SOMETHING, only MAGNIFIED….no clue as to what was doing it….finally, after about 20 minutes of this, whatever it was that was parallelling us started to slide off to our port side (we were headed south) and dissappeared into the light fog…..and we never found out what it was……

Strange thing is, even now I feel I sense things, I was in a building which belongs to my wife’s mother’s friend, I could sense something in there, I asked her if it was haunted and she said “how did you know that”? I just told her I sensed something was here, I did that on 4-5 occasions in different places, I also know when someone is watching me, my lawn in my back garden is 70 feet away from the house and down a considerable slope by a river, it takes about an hr to mow the lawn, all of a sudden I stop, I look up and the wife is watching me out the window, and I go all cold and break out into a sweat, other times have been when I’m going to work at 4:45am, I pull out of my driveway then !!BAM!! it hits me, I look up to the landing window and the wife is watching me go to work (she sometimes gets up for the loo when I go), very strange.

Yesd I concur. I break into a cold sweat when my wife is watching me too. Especially seeing as she wants another baby. 😀

Yes. I used to live in a haunted house, we had barking dogs which were dead, hands, noises in unoccupied rooms.
Last year on holiday in Brugge we invited a ghost into our hotel room…
We knew the hotel had a cat, and when I got up early one morning, I saw a tabby cat staring at me through the bathroom window. I assumed it was the hotel cat, and opened the window to have a look. The cat jumped in, and went into the bedroom. It was a friendly cat, but we had to go out so we caught it and put it back out through the window onto the flat roof. A few seconds later the cat was scratching the bedroom door to come back in. There was no way it could have got down from the roof, got inside and run up the stairs to the room in such a short space of time, and I don’t know how it would know which door to go to!
The cat followed us down to breakfast, which we were having early and so no one else was around. It walked round on the table licking out the empty butter cartons, and when we left the hotel, it was watching us go through the glass door. We never saw it again, which we thought was strange if it was the hotel cat.
When we returned to the same hotel this year, we saw a black and white cat and asked the owners if they had a new cat as well as the tabby. There had never been a tabby – no one had ever seen a tabby going into the hotel as a regular thing and we never saw our tabby friend again. The only tabby the hotel owner could think of was the dead brother of the hotel cat, and this tabby had never been in the hotel. So how the hell was this cat so familiar with the hotel when there had never been a tabby there, and how did it get from roof to bedroom door in a few seconds?

Here’s my ghostly tale cut and paste from one of the many previous threads we’ve had on this very subject:
“Woooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgh!!!!!!!
When I was about 17 I was staying with my parents and lying on my bed in my room one autumn evening around 8pm.
My hi-fi was on and some sort of live rock gig was being broadcast on the local radio station from a Glasgow venue.
I was lying flat on my back with my hands behind my head, staring at the ceiling when suddenly I became aware of a strange sensation. Two gentle hands began to stroke my wrists as if examining them carefully. My bed was hard against the wall so there was no way anyone could get behind the headboard.
After a second or two I began to get a little freaked out and a huge shiver travelled from the bottom of my spine all the way to the top. As soon as it reached the top the hands suddenly let go as if receiving a shock !
I jumped up off the bed and made a b-line for the living room where the rest of the family were watching telly.
A few months later on a Saturday afternoon when everyone had gone out shopping or to the football, I decided to pop downstairs to the newsagent below for a copy of Q magazine.
When I came back up I put it on the living room coffee table and went to the kitchen to put the kettle on, after a few minutes I returned with a cuppa to find the magazine had vanished. As I’ve said there was knowone else home apart from the cat, which didn’t particularly have a penchant for hefty monthly musical publications. It reappeared six weeks later on the same table.
The cat was also not particularly prone to “seeing things” until one afternoon, I’d just woken up from the previous night shift in the local co-op.
I awoke to find her sitting on my bed, squatted down in hunt mode and completely focussed on an unseen object on my brother’s empty bed across the room from mine. She sat there for about another hour staring at something? Even when I went to the kitchen to feed her she’d normally follow and wait to be fed. This time she’d dart into the kitchen and back to the bedroom to see if the thing was still there, she did this about a dozen times before finally settling down to eat her food. She had never done that before or ever again!
Years later I was told by a family friend who’s mother had lived in that same building in the 60’s of a young man who killed himself by slashing his wrists in our flat.”

This is the third and only house we have ever had, that has not had a guest as i call them. The second house had a lady called pru, who never bothered us and seemed pleased we lived there, as the house was empty for some twelve years before we moved in.The only really scary thing that happened was every room only had one light switch usually away from the door you were heading for,so light off, navigate the room in total darkness to the other door, during this time there was a sense that several people were dashing about the room and things were being knocked over, but no noise ,i also sensed pru was there, but seemed frightened her self .This went on for several weeks. One day on our return home i noticed the little bedroom light was on, we rounded the corner to find the back door off its hinges and the house ransacked (burglars had struck)after that the sense that people were dashing about after lights were off ,stopped.

I have rememebred another really freaky thing that happened to me a few years back. Not exactly a ghost story, a bit of the opposite. It was a Friday evening, about 7:30pm. I had started to walk into town to meet mates in the pub. I was, I might add, stone cold sobre. Around the corner from me is a dairy [corner shop to non-Kiwis]. Just before I got level to the store I heard a screech that sounded like car tyres braking hard, and then a bloodcurdling squeal! There were, I swear, no cars on the road within a kilometre so it cannot have been a car. therefore I could not instantly identify the first sound However, the yelp sounded like a dog in pain and it was very loud. I stopped in my tracks because I seriously thought that the guy in the house I was walking past must have been beating his dog. I looked and listened. Nothing.
It was just at the point where it was almost about to get dark. yet I could still see clearly in the dim light. Nothing in the yard of the house. I decided to walk on slowly, I was really worried, if he belted the dog that hard again I would have gone back and said something to this person who I could not see. It just had not sounded right – no-one would beat a dog that hard for discipline reasons.
Anyway, I walked on slowly and just got to the corner, probably another 200m. As I stopped at the corner to cross the intersecting road, a car went past me going fairly quick, travelling south (I was heading north on the same street). From behind, I then heard the car screach to a halt, a thud, and the yelp of a dog being run over. It was the EXACT sound I’d heard a minute before, as if played back on a tape!! I was stunned (I still am, I simply cannot explain this). I stood there in the silence of that warm summer’s evening, and heard a woman get out of the car and go to a nearby house and yell to an owner “Do you own a dog? I’ve just run one over.”
That confirmed to me what was indeed under the car. I knew already because of the preminition or whatever it was. I think Red Dwarf coined the phenomena that can be the only think that described this experience – a future echo.
Has anyone heard of this sort of thing before? It has only happened once to me. I’d hate to think I was given some gift to prevent that poor dog’s death and failed to do so.

Barrythemod, what made you take this picture in the first place?
The picture was taken because the house was up for sale and the Estate Agents wanted pictures of all the rooms.
By: Deano - 25th September 2005 at 10:45
I agree with Steve that some of it is people imagining things but the reality is, there has to be something in it.
Take the house we used to live in, we never ever saw anything (aprt from me & my brother’s imaginary friend) but always heard it, mum had a dream of that woman who a girl saw years later, exactly the same woman.
Barrythemod, looking at that picture reminded me, my mother in law used to run a Christian youth group, I used to pick my girlfriend (now wife) up from there every sunday night about 8:30pm, well before I met her one of the group was killed in a motorbike accident, outside the building is the grounds to the chapel, they decided to plant a tree in memory of him, they all gathered and had their photo taken by the tree as a group, when it was developed this guy who died is staring out the top window where they hold the group, and it is him, you can even make out his moustache, they have had the picture verified by experts and they can’t determine or give an explanation as to what else it could be, when you see it it really freaks you out I can tell you.
I play cricket, and the team I used to play for was my village team, the captain was a hard working sincere chap who lived in a very old farmhouse 2 miles outside the village, my uncle also owns a farm “across the fields” from his place, well he came to cricket and he wasn’t saying much (which is unusual), and he looked a kind of white, I said “Rog you okay today?” he said “yeah I’m fine, but hey do you….? naa forget it, people will think I’m stupid” I said what was up? he said well, he said did I believe in ghosts, I said hell yes, he then started to say that well he never and that whenever anyone used to tell stories he used to dismiss them as a load of old tosh, but he said he was led in bed the night before when he awoke, and at the bottom of his bed was a Roundhead, stood there in all his glory looking at him, he closed his eyes, opened them again and he was still there, so he closed them again, rubbed them, opened them and he was still there, he said he poked his foot out the bottom of the bed and waved it through him, he was still there, he turned round, woke up his wife Sam and told her to look at the end of the bed, when she did there was nothing there, she thought he was mad. This ties in with my uncle, there is a stream flowing in one of his fields, the same one that goes past my back garden, and he has often found swords, bits of clothning, coins etc from the 1600’s, and again on the outskirts of the village there was a war between the roundheads & cavaliers so it strikes home that what he was saying was the truth.

there is nothing scarey about witches as long as they are white witches. Barrythemod, what made you take this picture in the first place?
By: LFC24 - 25th September 2005 at 10:05
Witches and black magic stuff isway scarier than ghosts, I reckon.
About black magic, what is it anyway?! How can it possibly work….?
There’s a big park in our locality, where apparently witches have been seen. Believe me, you would not want to be there at night. It is so unbelievably scary. There’s a big house there as well. Who lives in it, I don’t know. The houses near that park are also haunted.
My grandad used to live in one of the houses there but sold it many years ago, after one of the relatives passed away in the house. But the spooky thing is that earlier this year, the owners of the house came to us and asked if there is anything wrong with the house, we said not that we know of. So they told us that they had been hearing something from the cellar, in a screaming tone.
Extremely bone chilling…
That park, without a doubt has something living inside it.

Apparitions or spectrums are usually the figment of an overactive imagination
I can agree with that where people are in a setting already known to be “haunted” or regard themselves as “psychic” and are expecting to see something out of this world.
I was walking along a beach thinking about work matters – hardly conducive to fantastic visions.
Like Dave, I know what I saw.

Apparitions or spectrums are usually the figment of an overactive imagination
Maybe so in some cases. I used to be a sceptic but I know what I have seen, and what I beleive. I also know how inactive my imagination usually is, hehe.
There are way to many coincidences, and way too many highly trustworthy people seeing these things for it to be all in the mind. However I do concede all those ghost-hunter style reality TV shows are pretty much over-active imaginings by over-acting idiots.
There are many theories as to whom ghosts may have been. One theory I like to propose when that conversation arises is that we are not seeing images of people from the past, but they maybe people from the future who have developed some way to look at us in their past – perhaps we’re all an amusement arcrade feature in the year 3000! hehe
