Hawaiian Airlines will add Sydney to its route network with effect from 17 May 2004, subject to government approvals. The airline carried 5.59 million passengers in 2003 and recorded a load factor of 80.3 per cent.

I think hawaiian had some difficulties in its regional and neighbouring routes that resukted in the removal of some B717s from service?

How’s Hawaiian’s current situation? I’m not too sure. It can’t be all that bad considering they are starting new routes. They are the only pax carrier to operate a widebody into my home airport, ONT with direct service to HNL. Very convenient for those of us that live 40+ miles east of LAX so that we don’t have to drive all the way down there. They’ve been doing the route for almost 2 years now, so the load factors must be decent. Air Canada only lasted 6 months at ONT with their YYZ flights.

How’s their current situation? I assume not too good?

They’ll be only the 2nd U.S. based carrier to serve Australia, UA being the other. They’ll be competing with both QANTAS and Air Canada (continuing service from YVR) on the HNL-SYD route.
