Quick one for the experts out there. Which Hawk unit carried plain yellow bars either side of the fuselage roundel when they were in the green/grey camouflage scheme? I should know this but I am having a ‘senior moment’!

Got me stumped too – never saw any plain yellow bars at Brawdy during the cammo era, and the only photos I can find of XX327 don’t help either, apart from clarifying that it is a Boscombe jet….
Edit: just been having a think after seeing comment about possible unfinished paintwork….. 234 Sqn markings had a different shade of yellow edge to them, could possibly have been applied as a block prior to back/red diamonds applied on top?

Funny old thing, I’m looking at a JFACTSU (currently 100 sqn Leeming) Hawk through my office window right now!

JFACTSU had one or two Hawks when they were at Brawdy but I cannot think what they would have been marked up as.

Wasn’t ‘327 one of the IAM Hawks?

YELLOW BARS
That is a possibility, though the only unit I know the aircraft – XX327 – served with for sure is 2 TWU 151 Sqn. Yellow bars are not 151 Sqn and the yellow is a much richer shade than that used on the yellow/black checks of 63 Sqn. Perhaps the serial will jog someone’s memory?

I’ve never heard of plain yellow bars on camouflaged RAF Hawks… The only thing I can think of is that maybe the aircraft you are referring to had not been finished in the paint shop.
Because of this it could have been 63 Sqn
