Hawker and Gloster built Hurricanes…

Guys… a bit of a technical question.

Is there any difference between the Hurricanes built at these factories ??

TIA

If you have construction numbers,

Gloster should be prefixed 41H/G5 or G5

Hawker should be prefixed plain: 41H

Of course.. If there are any construction numbers.. I wonder where this is?

The construction number is located on a small brass plate (1.5 by 1″) located on Port Joint C (under the port left hand side of the main instrument panel). The Plate normally has the construction number, RAF serial, date and the legend Hawker Aircraft or Gloster Aircraft. The RAF serial is also to be found on the port side of the dog house. Some panels have the serial painted on.

Mostly the differences are minor in nature. Silly things like top of the combined flaps & U/C selector knob for instance and small cockpit diffs. Other changes would probably be initial build standard modifications. For example, when you build any aircraft you have to freeze the design and build it to the GA drawing. As the aircraft production run starts, some aircraft will have entered trials/service and mods identified. These will be saved up for fitting to say the nth aircraft onwards. In WW2 return to works to have amod package fitted might not have been possible. There would be differences in the way these mods were identified and embodied.

Boring answer….hope it helps!
