Hi Folks,
Thanks to Dave Homewood’s recent question, I wondered how many Hawker Biplane survivors we can come up with, data and photos please!
I’m mainly thinking of Hawker Hart and Fury family, but others, such as the Tomtit are welcome.
Extra points for historic photos, though recent ones welcome too.
Post away!

A New One
According to the latest Classic Wings magazine
Hawker Fury II K8304 (ex Maintenance Serial 1706M) is about 2 years away from flight in Canada (there are a couple of pictures in there) – This is a new one to me – Has anybody got any history of this machine ?
Thanks
Paul

What ever happened to the Hind (?) remains in a scrapyard in Afghanistan that were pictured a couple of years ago?
– The remains of 15 Hinds (6 of which are identifiable airframes) were imported into the UK by a Mr Paul Chriswick
at the end of 2006 – he intends to keep L7191 (a Hind Trainer)

Small correction to foxwell’s comprehensive list above:
The Hawker Danecock/Dankok in Denmark is no longer in Billund (the museum there was closed many years ago) but is now with the Danish Collection of Vintage Aircraft in Stauning on the Danish West Coast.

There were reports in the not too distant past of a Hawker Nisr (Pegasus radial engined export version of the Audax) that was on display in Iraq at the Al Abied racing circuit. This was mentioned in Bob Ogden’s museums volume on Asia. In the text he reported that New Zealand member of the UN had visited the Military Museum (based at Muthenna Airfield but with some items at the race track) and reported the Nisr as at the circuit. One of 34 Nisrs delivered to Iraq in 1936.
Was the report accurate? If true does the airframe still survive? If so where is it now?

hi Guys
just made a very expensive phone call to deepest darkest Bedfordshire – 1 Hawker Osprey recovered from Scotland 1981 – very rough but restorable – was a radial at one stage at least – fuse and 3 wings 70 – 80 % there but will be sold at some stage as the owner is a bit to old to start it now – a friend of a friend and doesn’t want to talk about it . I think the thought of selling it upsets him – When he is OK about it I will post the details – I was just told it was an Osprey so without seeing it I don’t know but it sounds like he knows what he is talking about .
Regards
John P

Aerovintage have a Swedish Hart

Glenn
Thanks.. I knew it was Swedish.. I knew it was a Hawker Biplane.. However I was uncertain of the type!

Any details on the Aerovintage Swedish Hart?
There was an issue of Aeroplane (I think), either earlier this year or late last year with a couple of photos of the Afghan Hinds in the scrapheap. I think in amongst the wreckage were numerous mines, which would make it a very difficult job of removing the remains of the Hinds.

Doesn’t Guy Black have an ex Swedish Osprey as well?
By: Alex Crawford - 25th October 2005 at 19:22
Hi,
The only Osprey that I know of is the Swedish Air Force Museum example. The remains of SE-AYR, of which around 70% was recovered in 1985, is in storage awaiting restoration.
Apparently the RAF Museum aquired a pair of Osprey floats from Sweden, it’s possible these may have come from SE-AYR. It is hoped that these will be returned to Sweden for SE-AYR.
