Hawker Fury FB.10 G-CBEL test flight!

I had the opportunity to visit Bournemouth Aviation Museum today, and contrary to reports, Fury G-CBEL has not left for France… yet!
Instead, this rather handsome object went out for a local flight at the hands of John Bradshaw.

It was only the second time I had seen her fly since 1996, and I very much hope it won’t be the last 🙁

After a 20-minute sortie, CBEL joined the circuit for an immediate landing.

I’d just like to add how chuffed I am to see these photos. I have only seen this beautiful aircraft once before, static at FL 2004. To have some glimpses of her, “as God Intended”, is superb.

Now what are the train times to Bournemouth…..

No rumour according to new owner who I talked to on the phone only days ago. Unless the sale was broken… :rolleyes:

I may be wrong here but this MAY be the present owner posting as Bradair is the name of the registered owner of the Sea fury………… 😉

The flight of Fury GCBEL on the 18th November 2006 was a routine local fllight, including aerobatics over Tarrant Rushton. The aircraft is an FB11, and any rumours of its sale and export to a foreign base are quite untrue . The blue exhaust smoke is normal for a big radial, but was exacerbated on this day by a long and tortuous taxi back to the hangar after landing.

Sorry for any mistakes in my original post. I’ve always called it a FB.10 since reading about it many years ago 😮
She’s a gorgeous aeroplane with prop blades like glass, and I hope to see her flying again soon!

The news that she is not going overseas is most welcome. I just love the piston engined warbirds as they seem to have a character that is missing in jets, even the early ones.

If you notice, the starboard side of the fuselage is Australian. As for the reason see my previous post. I vaguely remember that someone did the same with a Spitfire some years ago and TFC’s Curtis Hawk carries different markings on Port and Starboard sides. Certainly there was a P-51 marked as Moose on one side (posrt I think) and Old Crow on the other – can’t remember whose it was and I don’t know if it is still so marked.

That was TFC’s P-51D G-BTCD, now under the care of OFMC.
It was painted Moose on one side, with Candyman on the other.
Looked rather smart 🙂

Lovely aircraft though.

I like the idea of the composite markings showing some of the coutries the Sea Fury served with. OK, so the purists will probably disagree with me (as is their right) but I personally think it is a good idea (No cause for complaints about inacurate markings or coulour schemes then)
