[QUOTE=David Burke;1891495]I think this is a machine that is unlikely to be traded to become a museum static. There are not many museums where a Hawker Fury would represent a serious gap in its collecting policy and the cost of rebuilding a Fury to flight must represent a £1 million plus investment. That means to my mind that a trade for an airworthy WW 2 aircraft would be much more likely. [QUOTE]

On the other hand, If I was a national museum who had a hankering for what is the archetypical 1930s fighter and I had a cache of Spitfires for swapsies, then I might seriously consider making a trade for one or more before the market was swamped with whatever is recovered from a hole in Burma.

Regards the Patrick Lindsay Fury -it doesnt contain any significant original Hawker structure pieces in its construction. I was at Lands End circa 1982 –
besides the complete machine was the Hawker fuselage structure from Eire
that was used as a pattern . The Fury has wooden wings -Anson oleo’s and other deviations from the Hawker spec.

This is one aircraft that many thousands of us will have the pleasure of seeing in the air, even if it is then grounded as a static in a museum after a short while.
From the photo’s I have seen of her prior to restoration, there did not seem to be a great deal of the original framework that could be used in a static example, let alone a flier, so she would not have contained much more original structure had she been restored for static display.
Whatever certain people may feel about Retrotech/historic aircraft collections pollicies etc, we have them to thank for giving us the chance to see several wonderfull types in the air, that we may never have had the chance to otherwise. We have the Fury to look forward to, with the DH9 not too far behind, & later on, the Audax & Yak 1 etc etc.

The basic answer is that it will fly when it and the owners are ready.

I think what Bruce means is – you said you talked to ARC. The Aircraft Restoration Company isn’t doing this restoration, so was it them you were talking to, and if so, why do they know?

I spoke with Janice recently and was told all is well with the Fury and that it will fly when the correct weather permits. No issues with paperwork or anything else. It will fly when they are ready to do so, indeed I am hoping, by invitation, to be there when it does 🙂
