Hawker Fury/Nimrod

Hi Guys,

I know this has been covered before, and I’ve looked at the previous thread this was in, but I need some up to date details on the following Fury/Nimrod survivors.

TFC Nimrod S1581. Very well known and I know about this one.
HAC Nimrod K3661. Is this still under restoration? Anyone know who the final owner will be?

HAC Fury K5674. Genuine airframe recovered from South Africa. Any update on it’s restoration?

Brooklands Museum Fury K5673 replica. Any details on when it was built and who by?

Hawker Restorations have a set of Nimrod wings. Are these for a third Nimrod?

I know there’s a replica Fury in Belgium. Is this the ISAACS Fury? Any other replica Furys around?

Hi,

I just found out today that the Cambridge Bomber and Fighter Society are planning to rebuild Fury K1926. They took delivery of parts of the fuselage and wings last year.

Other than that I don’t have any other details.

When will you learn to press the shutter button half way to let it focus before you take the shot. It stops it being fuzzy. I spent time trying to explain that to you on Sunday but as always you fail to listen.

I did listen and take note. That photo was not taken on Sunday, thats been in my collection a while now.

I’m sure Robbo or MOTF must have loads of these shots. However, not difficult if you stand back and put a telephoto lens on! The cockpit is the Demon in the RAAF Museum.

Cant help you with photos of the Hind. Its to high to reach over into and photograph the cockpit and the same with the gunners position. Ive cockpit phots of the Tomtit though.

I have just been told the Nimrod K3661 is expected to be completed sometime later this year and the Fury K5674 will be airborne in 2007.

Fury Replica

This is at best a full scale look-alike but with a RR Kestrel.

Cant we persuade the owners – who I believe dont fly it – to pass on the engine?

We have been waiting with baited breath for years now to see the gorgeous Skysport Demon in the air. It looked all there when featured a few months back in Aeroplane.

Pity you need so much muscle ( or a Hucks of course!) to wind the thing up. I can just imagine turning up at G-VFWE in something like that otherwise….

Hi Alex,

The Fury replica was built by Viv Bellamy and his team at Lands End for Patrick Lindsay. The wings were made of wood and were constructed by John Issacs (Issacs Fury). The fuselage was I believe constructed from the remains of a Hector Fuselage.

Many years ago I did a report on the replica for Aeroplane monthly, I’ll dig it out again and scan it if you want. BTW there was a very good thread on the forum last year on testing the aircraft by Airbedane.

It is worth reading John Isaac’s book (An Aeroplane Affair) if you can get it. As I recall the Hector parts were not used and it was a fully welded tube fuselage. The wings were all wooden and did not have the rolled spars. So, not exactly a Fury but as close as we had until the South African one turned up.

Thanks for posting the photo. From photos I have seen 43 Sqn Furys didn’t appear to have the white parts of their markings painted. They were simply black. It is possible that they later had the white parts added, but so far no photos have appeared to confirm this.

You’re absolutely right Alex. This was probably an error picked up from the incorrect Matchbox Fury kit’s decal sheet.
