I was taking stock of my pictures of Hunters when I suddenly realised I was only a few models short of a full deck.
I would be really happy if I could achieve this aim so if anyone has colour photos of the following Hunters they can post I’ll be your mate for life :p
What I need is:
Hunter F Mk 5 RAF
Hunter F Mk 60 Saudi Arabia
Hunter FR Mk 59 Iraq
Hunter FR Mk 74 Singapore
Hunter FR Mk 79 Abu Dhabi
Hunter T Mk 66 Lebanon
Hunter T Mk 69 Iraq
Hunter T Mk 70 Saudi Arabia
Hunter T Mk 79 Qatar
Hunter T Mk 81 Kenya
I know there is still a few to go so any help would be appreciated. If you are after any that I have please drop me a line and I’ll send them on through the forum.

hi
A note about retired QEAF Hawker Hunter QA11 ( formerly N219 Dutch Air Force )
This aircraft has been sat by the side of the runway at Doha for many years now but just recently it appears to have been moved.
A photo link showing the aircraft at Doha
http://s81.photobucket.com/user/JochenH1982/media/IMG_4102-1.jpg.html
The old Hunter, which was abandoned after a landing incident years ago, was parked near to some kind of fire fighting training aid at the end of runway 34.
Recently the area has been taken over by construction vehicles and as can be seen from the video, the Hunter is gone.

I wonder where to?

There’s a lovely picture of the one and only Qatari T.79 QA13 in the book Hunters by Ray Braybrook. It’s a bit naughty but I’ll see if I can scan it for you.
By the way, do you have a photo of any of the Qatari FGA.78s. There were only three of them but I’m particularly interested in QA12 as I am currently restoring the cockpit section – see my avatar!
Today i stumbled upon a very RARE photo of QA13 on display at the air base in Doha.
It is on the website for the National Air and Space Museum in Paris. The thread topic was photos of aircraft on pylons etc and there is just one photo there from Qatar. I was amazed when i saw it.
Apart from the other photo above of QA13 in the hangar i have seen no others. There are short film clips though, which are good to view. Very short in duration and obviously from the 1970’s and early 1980’s in Qatar.
I believe this photo is dated 1991.

Hello Spiteful21 and MarkG from the Netherlands.
This evening, years after you both did post on this thread, I read it………..
At this moment I am trying to find my way in ex Dutch Hawker Hunter fates.
Amongst other the Mk.7 (later converted to Mk.T77) sold to Abu Dhabi, and from there to Somalia…. RNLAF registrationnumbers N-301 and N-312
And Hunter F Mk.6 (converted to FGA Mk.78 upgraded to FGA- Mk.9) Qatar, ex N-268 (QA-10), ex N-219 (QA-11), ex N-222 (QA-12); Hunter Mk.7 converted to Mk.79 Qatar, ex N-316 (QA-13).
Is any information on this Hunters available as far as you both know?
With kind regards
Pauljos

wish-list
Well, I’ve only read Tim’s but David’s is on the “wish-list” although, as Tim says, it is very detailed indeed. I’ll get it in time to while away the hours when I can no longer get out to see the real thing!!:)
Well, ‘Sky-High’ Kentish man, putting my book on the back-burner eh? Well, Tim’s book is an extremely readable history of the Hunter, but as I say in my book, I do not intend to produce a history of the Hunter. My book is very refer-able, if you need to know something about a Hunter – in any form – my book is it.
If you ask Air-Britain a question on the Hunter, odds are they will be sent to me to give a response.
My books are established in 2011 and will remain unchanged, at least for the next 5 or 10 years before I put out a new version. However, the DVD that I produce on the Hunter far surpasses that of the written word, it comes as two DVD’s, one includes all of the contents of the books with an additional hundred or so pages added. It is also being constantly updated as I get information. The other DVD contains scans of many Hunter related company publications and manuals plus documents such as the 1958 SBAC Farnborough show program. It is also in full colour and enlargable, which the book is not.
If you are interested in doing me a reasonable deal (much cheaper than the books) for a DVD set before those real Hunters disappear, let me know. Send me a PM.

As mentioned above, the most detailed reference source by far is David Griffin’s book. Guess it depends what you want to know…

[QUOTE=FRANCISCO;1704138]I would not claim to be a Hunter expert but there is on excellent book:
The Hawker Hunter a Complete History by Tim McLelland published by Crecy ISBN 978 0 85979 123 6. It has 380 pages of history and technical information.
It has to be said that Crecy doturn out some good stuff.

I’ve found www.theaviationindex.com to be pretty useful, but more so because i’m more interested in magazine articles written but the actual pilots (etc) as opposed to the book listed
I’ll then typically jump on ebay and get the magazines for next to nothing. Also find it quite cool to be able to see what other articles the author had written – I had no idea some of the articles by Roland Beamont existed
Heres the link to the Hunters page:
http://www.theaviationindex.com/aircraft-types/hawker-hunter
The site can be a bit slow sometimes, and i’ve found it more effective to click on the aircraft links as opposed to doing a search since it misses some articles sometimes

Hawker Hunters with antiaircraft missiles
On the Hawker Hunters subject, was the Rhodesian air force the only ones to arm their Hawker Hunters with antiaircraft missiles? Where can I get some good images, how were they mounted (as I would like to build a model with the missiles). Where they ever fired in anger?
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter.

As above, plus:
Hunter Fascination – Cristophe Donnet (mainly about the Swiss Hunter but a wonderful ‘coffee table’ book)
The Hawker Hunter, a comprehensive guide – Paul Bradley (mainly a ‘modelers’ book, but some really good photo’s and artwork)
Hawker Hunter – Barry Jones (a bit lightweight)
Hawker Hunter Super Profile – Haynes (even more of a lightweight)

Francis Mason’s “Hawker Hunter, Biography of a Thoroughbred” book is up there still IMO, even though it was published 20+ years ago…

A good overview of UK Hunter operations is:
Hunters. the Hawker Hunter in British Military Service by Martin Bowman from Sutton Publishing . ISBN 0 7509 2935 9.
As I said, not an expert, just a former member of the Delta jets supporters club that disbanded a while back.
