Hawker Hunter XG 210

Took my Honda 900 out for a spin earlier this week, via Marham, Lakenheath & Mildenhall – & whilst riding around, came across Hunter XG 210 (first time I’d seen it since the mid – late’ish 1990’s.

I was suprised to see the dilapidated state it appears to be in.

Dialled in a Google images search (today/20th Oct) on that serial – & the better of the two images led to Damien B’s ‘Thunder & Lightnings’ site – photo was taken May 2002, with interesting info’ caption, that ends up mentioning the local Newmarket A.T.C.’s involvement.

Judging by it’s current state, I assume that ‘help’ never materalised ?

Looks like it’s going the way (condition-wise) of the Blackpool Vulcan.

Here’s a link to a piccy of it when in service at Hatfield. Though the link is tenuous, it would be the only chance I had of preserving a Hunter at Salisbury Hall! (No, I wont be!)

Incidentally, and mentioning Swifts, the infamous example at Sheppards Surplus served in the same role as the Hunter at Hatfield. Small World!

afternoon,

where is this hunter kept, by a road side? or what? is it open for anyone to visit?

Shame its in that start but ithink weve all seen worse about

When I started this thread (& basically, when I first saw it, nine years earlier) it was residing just inside a rather long private ‘front-garden’, on a bend in a country-lane less than a mile from Mildenhall (approx).

You can (almost) literally pull up to it, (other side of fence) though inevitably leave your ‘Car’ etc well clear of the bend !

Haven’t been there since the 1st post, so if it’s still there, I’d imagine it’s deteriorated further still ?????

Danger is, as ‘preserved’ Hunters are quite prolific in number, it’s easily overlooked………

If it were a Hampden or a Swift from the next decade, they’rd be more fuss made about it’s continued exposure ~& therefore decay…….:(

Looking a bit lost.. Nothing that a good rub down and spit and polish would do wonders!
